Meet Dr. Stephen Granger | U.S. Archaeological Consultant, Author, Custom Knife Maker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Stephen Granger and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Stephen, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
I define success as being able to make a living doing what you love to do. I enjoy making knives. I enjoy the artistic freedom of it. I enjoy being able to express myself using different mediums, steel, ivory, gemstone, etc. To me, it’s very rewarding to meet someone who has an interest in my work. Someone who understands the complexity of artistic expression, and the hours it takes to complete a work of art.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Sedona Custom Knives is the name of my knife-making business. It is located in beautiful Sedona Arizona. What sets Sedona Custom Knives apart from other knife brands, is customer service and the product itself. Each knife is handmade, one at a time. I use the highest quality materials for each one. Each knife is designed around the customer’s need, and want. It takes anywhere from 1 to 2 weeks to make each one. With all of this considered, I don’t mind apologizing for the price, but I refuse to have to apologize for the lack of quality!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Sedona has many things to do, and places to visit! Sedona has you covered if you are into nature, hiking, biking, kayaking, fishing, or just shopping! If those things can’t keep you busy enough for your trip, there is always the Grand Canyon just up the road, or ancient Ruins here locally. I have friends and family that come visit, and there’s always something new to do or go see each time they come.

I’d like to recognize and thank my wife, Claudia, who is always supportive of me and feeds my soul with encouragement.
