Meet Darlene Dwyer | Insurance Agency Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Darlene Dwyer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Darlene, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think it’s crucial to take risks in life, especially if they can help you achieve your goals. In my experience, the only reason I was able to open a business is because I took a huge risk. I was presented with two options: I could stay where I was and work under an agent or I could open my own agency. I loved where I was at and I was making good money, but I knew that having my own agency would be more beneficial for me in the long run. I also knew that it would cost a lot to start the business and I could potentially lose a lot of money, but it was a risk that I was willing to take.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I own an insurance agency in Tempe, and what sets me apart from other insurance agencies is my personality and dedication. I love to have conversation and make jokes, and I also make sure to do everything that I can to find solutions to any issues my clients bring to me. I am an award winning agent already in my first year of business. am originally from Chicago, but I always knew that I wanted to live in the Phoenix area ever since I was a child. With my hard work and dedication, I took a huge risk and chose to open my business out here and finally make one of my dreams come true. This was definitely not easy, but I have no regrets about my decision. The biggest lesson I have learned is to be patient. It’s so easy to get caught up in excitement when you are accomplishing your goals, but it’s important to still keep your priorities first and remember that good things in life take time and patience to achieve.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I have only been in Arizona for about a year and a half, so I am actually still a bit new here and have not experienced a lot here yet. From what I have experienced so far, the places I would take someone to eat would depend on the cuisine. For tacos, Loco Patron in Tempe has amazing tacos and margaritas (especially on Tuesdays during happy hour). Joe is my favorite bartender there, he will definitely make sure you have a good time. For anyone from out of state, I would definitely have to take them to In-N-Out for the west coast fast food experience. For coffee, we are definitely going to Dutch Bros. Steak and Stone in Mesa would be my go to place for a fun steak dinner. You get to cook the steak by yourself on a stone it is so cool. To get some drinks and have a beautiful view, we would have to go the Skysill rooftop bar at the Westin in Tempe. I would also want to take them to the Hole in the Rock, which is a small hike in Tempe that allows you to see the view of Phoenix through a literal hole in a rock.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a shout out to Chantal Ortiz Meza. I would not be where I am today if she did not show me how to reach my potential. I would also like to thank my mom, Debbie, for being so supportive of everything I do.
