We had the good fortune of connecting with Christian Brim and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christian, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I only worked 5 years in corporate America before I decided that I was not satisfied. I realized then that I would never be paid what I was worth working for someone else. It was also frustrating to see ways to improve things and serve customers that I was unable to implement.
I also knew that if I wanted to do something myself, the time was now. The longer I stayed on the path I was on, the harder it would be to get out. I still wanted to help business owners, so I started looking for a way to do that, and eventually purchased an accounting franchise. Yes, they existed at that time.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Wow. There is a lot to unpack there. Was it easy? Hell no! If it was easy, everyone would do it. There are so many lessons I’ve learned, I can’t remember them all. If I were going to settle on one, it is the idea that you have to grow as a person to grow your business. In all of the challenges I’ve encountered, I should have started with myself. Unfortunately for many years, I didn’t. This is not to say that I created the problems by myself, rather that I needed to first look at myself to see I was contributing to the problem.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, Oklahoma is a very diverse state, and although not on most people’s destinations list, there are a surprising number of things to check out. Here in Oklahoma City, where I live, I would start with the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum and the First Americans Museum. They tell the same story from very different perspectives. I would take them to our world class Olympic Training facility for rowing and kayaking. I know, strange in a land locked state. We’d eat at Cattlemen’s Steak House in Historic Stockyards City. Maybe take a tour of Prairie Surf Studios where they filmed Tulsa King. If we had time, I’d make the short drive to Tulsa to check out The Gathering Place, a truly unique public space.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First, God’s hand has been on me my entire journey, and I give all glory to Him. Second, my wife, who nursed our youngest while doing bookkeeping. Couldn’t have survived without her. Lastly, I’ve been a member of Entrepreneur’s Organization for the last 12 years, and it was fundamentally changed me as a person and an entrepreneur.
