We had the good fortune of connecting with Joel Young and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joel, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
in 2016, CBD was just starting to come onto the marketplace. I had previously made a career in cannabis and loved it however, my goal was to help people feel better and live better. Cannabis was more focused on “getting high” rather than promoting a healthy lifestyle. I wanted to move away from the stoner culture and move closer to the culture of health and wellness. It was a no brainer for me to move into the CBD market.

My challenge was to create an atmosphere where people could get educated about the healing benefits of hemp while offering healthy drink options. at that time and still today, all CBD stores are exactly the same. its stuff on a shelf and if you are lucky, the person behind the counter can offer insightful information about hemp and CBD. Enter Sweetpeas Infusions Cafe. We are a CBD store with a delicious and healthy twist. We offer real fruit smoothies, Frappes, 100% Kona Coffee and herbal tea. All of our drinks have the option of being infused with our broad spectrum, nano-particulate CBD. We also identified a manufacturing company that makes our full spectrum CBD products exactly to our specs. it’s truly an amazing product. We also carry a fine selection of vetted 3rd party products that taste good, are effective and have ingredients that are easily pronounced. Our oil products are not diluted with fillers or flavors and only have 2 ingredients making them very concentrated and effective.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have always had an artistic knack. As a child I enjoyed creating illustrations and as it turns out, I was rather good at it. At that time, I knew there were 2 types of artist. A starving artist or a dead artist. Certainly I wanted to be neither.

At 24 years of age, I discovered that I could still be an artist and not be starving or dead. In 1994 I went to college in Tucson Arizona where I received my bachelors degree in visual communication/graphic design. My first job fresh out of college was at Raytheon. WOW! In October of 2000, I moved to Northern California and aggressively pursued my career in marketing, graphic design.

I soon discovered that I had a multitude of talents that I didn’t know about, I worked in radio, television & print. in the 12 years that I spent in Northern California, I made it my personal mission to become the very best that I could be within my career. The last corporate position that I held “marketing director” was for a 65 location pizza franchise. I was with this company for the last 5 years that I spent in California.

In 2012 I moved to North Eastern Arizona where I pursued the American dream. Business and property ownership. All of the skills that I developed during my time in California were now sharpened and ready for deployment. Only this time, my skills, drive and undying determination were going to be used for my benefit and not someone else. I married the love of my life in 2016 and launched Sweetpeas Infusions Cafe. I can say with confidence that we are our areas #1 CBD outlet. Our brand is trusted our products are proven. The next step is to take this brand to a national level through franchising.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I could actually break away from my business for 1 week, I would take my friend on a week-long motorcycle excursion. I am the proud owner of two amazing Harley Davidson motorcycles. We would ride through the salt river canyon and head south to Mexico where we would enjoy the ocean, tequila, tacos and Mexican culture. Riding a motorcycle is how I keep my mind quiet and sane. it’s a great way to enjoy the open road.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Credit and recognition goes out to a couple of people. First and foremost, my mother Sherrie Young. She has always pushed me to go further, take calculated and un calculated risks and most of all, never be afraid to fail.

The second person that deserves to be recognized and is a major part of my success is my beautiful wife, Rael Young. She is my rock. She keeps me grounded and focused. These two women have been nothing short of amazing. I wouldn’t be where I am at without their influence.
