Meet Rebecca Gault | Owner & Creative Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebecca Gault and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rebecca, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Solving a problem. As a tall person and having tall children with long legs, I struggled with finding pants that fit them correctly. I always wanted to go a size up for the length, but a size down for the waist. They were always ill fitting, so I decided to take matters into my own hands and design a brand that would fit children with long legs.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I spent 12 years in corporate sales positions and while I learned a ton and enjoyed my time doing that, I always had an itch to do something on my own. Once my third child was born I decided to stay home and spend more time with them. To make a little extra money I started a photography business. It was low risk and low cost to get started. Once I saw that I could be successful with that, it gave me the confidence to go after this clothing line idea that I had been tossing around in my head for a few years. I am so proud of creating Ducks & Drakes as it was an idea I had for about four years and doing the research, coming into contact with the people I did and building this brand and seeing it come to fruition is truly a dream come true. As a child I was self conscious of my long skinny legs and could never find pants that fit me properly. My hope is to give kids who feel like I did all this years ago, to give them confidence while wearing great fitting pants, to go after their dreams and accomplish them with their head held high! Learning how to start a clothing company was a huge learning curve for me. I didn’t have a retail background, so I did tons or research, reached out to lots of people, asked lots of questions and ultimately just rolled my sleeves up and figured it out. I’ve learned a lot about what doesn’t work as well as what does work. Ultimately, I saw a problem and I wanted to solve it. That is how Ducks & Drakes was born.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I was born and raised in Greenville, SC. When our firstborn was two years old we decided to move back home and man have I always been thankful that we did!! We have three sets of grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins for our kids to grow up with. Plus we live in a pretty awesome little slice of heaven! The community we have here is unmatched. The sweetest friends and the best little city around! I’d first take someone to our award winning downtown! We’d grab a drink at Grand Bohemian Lodge downtown. It’s right by Liberty Bridge and we’d sit outside while listening to the falls and people watching. Next we’d have dinner downtown at Soby’s. If you were staying in town then we’d head to the mountains the very next day to grab and hike and explore the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains! On the next day we’d grab breakfast at Eggs Up Grill and get a coffee to go at the end so we could shop and walk around downtown!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
So many people have helped me along this entrepreneurial journey! Special shout out to my husband who has supported this crazy idea from day one, to my family and several friends. Particularly my mom and twin brother have been sounding boards and encouragers to me. I had a great team of women at Todem that helped me with branding, coming up with a company name, designing my website and overall helping to get what was in my head out into the world. Special shout out to my fellow entrepreneurs I have met along the way that have answered all kinds of questions and helped be a sounding board and bounced ideas around with me!
