We had the good fortune of connecting with Joana Santos Barbosa and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joana, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
InsidherLand, my brand of furniture, creates lighting, upholstery and decoration accessories full of narrative and symbolism and sells worlhile. If, on the one hand, the honesty of my author design has been central to the recognition of my brand DNA by our clients, on the other hand, it is the perseverance that has allowed the success of my work.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When I look back, I clearly remind my strong will to create meaningful pieces of furniture connected to my personal emotions. It hasn’t been easy, but it was all worth it. I’m an Architect by profession that, after working exclusively in Architecture, decided to create my own author design brand in a small country called Portugal. Well, small in size but so rich in traditional knowledge, where I was able to put together a team of talented artisans to produce my designs to sell them all over the World. This was the plan…
Saying this, my team and I grew from zero and, by doing that, we all faced all types of challenges in the production of the pieces, the marketing strategies to promote the brand in a world that is constantly evolving, the new and so diverse markets, the logistics, and so on…
Together, we can overcome all challenges because we all share a clear vision of what we want to achieve, alongside with a shared responsibility of giving our very best to our customers.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Porto, a city located in the north of Portugal that was born alongside the Douro river with its outstanding colorful houses and many historical bridges. For this reason, showing the birth of the city would be a wonderful start point.

Visiting downtown would also be a must, with so many historical buildings, churches and squares to discover. The garden view of Palacio de Cristal would certainty surprise and, for a perfect sunset, I would suggest a dinner at Praia da Luz in the area of Foz do Douro, where I live. It is my favorite bar. A magical place that is nestled between thick and twisted trees, completely open to the Ocean. Between ambient music, the beach and the smell of the sea air, you can enjoy the best sunset in the city.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Currently, my business involves almost 100 people, in a team that I began to create about 14 years ago. I owe a lot to each of these people that support my ideas by turning them into reality. Each person is responsible for our collective success. However, it would be impossible not to highlight the importance of my family for all the support they have given me since the beginning and, in particular, my dear father who has worked with me over the years.
