We had the good fortune of connecting with Tara Gamel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tara, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
I remember when I was young and had dreams of being an artist when I grew up. I envisioned me painting in a large studio surrounded by windows, attending gallery events, and spending my days leisurely creating work that sold before the paint was dry. Boy was I in for a rude awakening! Being an artist is a business. I realized quickly that I needed to know how to keep expenses down without compromising my product, I needed to know how to market myself, and most importantly I needed to be disciplined with my time! It is a full time job and if you don’t put in the work, you won’t see good results!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The most important thing I’ve learned through the years is to keep going even when you don’t see immediate results. Sometimes my biggest achievements and proudest moments have come on the hills of days when I was discouraged and felt like giving up. I know the best thing I can do is to be authentic, honest, and enjoy the journey and be kind to those I meet on the way!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We definitely need to start our days with a hike for some beautiful views. Superstition Mountain, Papago Park, and Camelback Mountain would be my first picks! For breakfast we would have to go to Queen Creek Olive Mill, Snooze, and Mac’s for sure! We’ll need to walk off those delicious meals so we can hit High Street Market Place to check out Everything is Beautiful Gallery and grab a coffee at the Stir Coffee shop. We can also grab lunch at Hula. We have all week so we can also hit Downtown Gilbert and visit Sozo Coffee and Bergies, and Cherish Cafe in Chandler,! Definitely need to go to Downtown Phoenix for 1st Friday and stop by 9 the Gallery! There are so many cool events that happen throughout the year and I would definitely go to places like Wonder Spaces in Scottsdale and Tempe town lake. For some night fun I would go to Wine and Design in Queen Creek for a night of painting! There are some great dinner spots to hit like St. Francis and Olive and Ivy!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d love to thank my husband Stacy Gamel who takes care of my website, photos, and has supported me through thick and thin. He’s an amazing graphic designer who is always encouraging me to keep going and think outside the box!
