We had the good fortune of connecting with Allison Cripe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Allison, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
Knowing whether you should keep going or give up is an important call. It’s a decision you should make by yourself.

When people start new ventures, others might nay say what they’re doing-especially at the early stages! No matter what, you need to listen to what you want and this is most important when things get tough. It’s important to recognize that you should push yourself, and if things are too easy then you need a challenge. When you want to quit ask yourself these things:

1. Take your emotions out of the situation. Does quitting make sense? Or, are you just experiencing life?
2. If it’s about money- is there another path to do what you love that could generate this for you?
3. Does it make your soul sing? Always keep going.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I don’t know if there’s much that sets me apart. Music is funny. It feels like everything’s been done now and everything is accessible on the internet- it’s pretty incredible the amount of musicians out there now! 🙂

I’ve loved playing guitar since I was 14, usually sitting on my bed with my red Ibanez GAX70. Thankfully, I had few friends in high school and had time to practice a lot. I had one best friend and we used to burn CDs for each other. I listened to 70’s punk, 90’s grunge, riot grrl, and 80’s pop. I loved Alice in Chains but also Edith Piaf and the constant collecting of music in my teens combined with playing guitar led me to write music.

At 17, I was scouted at Chandler Fashion Square and traveled the world as a fashion model but never showed anyone my music. In my twenties, I showed an LA producer my songs and he told me, “You need a hit.” Such terrible advice but I was young and dumb. He took $400 from me and said that he would ‘find me management.’ I never heard from him again.

In the past few years, I’ve learned to play music from a place of enjoyment because that’s all that matters.

Creatively, I’m also a publicist and a metalworker – I LOVE welding. I’m making new music and I create artisan lighting fixtures. I”m just getting started!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a friend visiting Phoenix, I’d take them to Tonto National Forest to see the wild horses and to Proof Bakery for an amazing almond croissant. Next stop, coffee at Hava Java because you need the anxiety bean juice, then to Schnepf Farms.

Phoenix has amazing sunsets so we’d have to hike in the desert when the sky is a burning pink. Then, I’d drive them up to Oak Creek to stay for a few days at a resort by the water. It’s so peaceful in the woods.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A special shoutout to Johnny Smoke for listening to my songwriting and adding incredible production. An especially huge shoutout to the many people in LA who said ridiculous things like, ‘You need to write a hit!’ No, you don’t, but thanks for teaching me that early.
