Meet Kitrisha Rasmussen | Tattooist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kitrisha Rasmussen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kitrisha, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My goal with starting my own business was to break the mold with how tattoo shops are seen. Tattooing is such an art form, and I was classically trained in drawing and painting, I see tattooing as just another extension of art. I wanted to portray my business as an art studio, and I want to be able to open that curiosity and break that negative stigma with people who have not been emerged in the tattoo world.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started tattooing later in life, after my kids had grown up a little more. I went to college at Utah State University on a drawing and Painting scholarship. I am especially fond of oils and watercolors. I love the human figure. I love painting portraits. I love painting animals and any creature. I went through a formal tattoo apprenticeship 3 years ago and I’ve never looked back. The technicality of the art is a daily challenge where I feel like I’m always making little breakthroughs and learning more and more which makes this the most exciting medium I’ve worked with. I love the interactions with my clients. Emphasis here: I LOVE my clients . I love the stories behind their tattoos, I love being apart of their healing journey, their celebrations, their excitement or heartbreaks. Sometimes sessions can be extremely emotional. I just feel so honored that I get to be apart of that. That my art can bring that to someone.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely take them hiking through Tucson ( haha but probably not right now with this heat!!) That is one of my favorite things about living here. I love the nature!! Seven falls and Picacho peak are my two favorite hikes to do!! I would have to get them respatos and then of course get them in my chair for some tattoo time!!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have six kids and have been married to my husband Brandon for over 22 years now. My husband especially has been my cheerleader. He’s pushed me to do something with my artwork and was so supportive and encouraging when we discussed learning to tattoo. Family is everything to me. Everything I do I want to make sure I am a good example to my kids and I want to show them that hard work and dedication to your dreams can make them reality
