We had the good fortune of connecting with Hannah Frantz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hannah, why did you pursue a creative career?
I’ve always felt most myself when I am creating. I spend every moment I can immersed in my art, and my business has given me an outlet to share my creations with others. I truly believe that sharing my heart through my art is my purpose on earth.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started my jewelry business, Rocks and Daisies, in 2019. I needed an extra form of income during college and my mom had given me a bunch of beads from her own jewelry-making days. Inspired by nostalgia of designing jewelry with my mother growing up, I started making necklaces and selling them to friends or family. However, soon after I took a 2 year break from jewelry design – life was busy with my multiple day jobs and college classes. During this time I still created art daily – painting, sketching, clay forms, etc. But I did not pursue it as a business until 2021, when I was drawn to restart Rocks and Daisies and combine my fine art and jewelry design under the same business. One thing I learned was consistency is key for building business. It was a challenge to start over after a 2 year break, but i was determined to keep pursuing and sharing my art, even if it didn’t make me money at first. I realized that time invested in my own business was far more valuable to me than time spent working for others, even if it paid more up front. Creating is my passion in life. And through it, I can express the things I don’t have words for, the parts of myself I am still learning, and the deepest parts of my being. I was created to create. However, it’s always been more challenging for me to share my art with others. I’ve overcome the fear of others judging or disliking my art, but sometimes it still feels vulnerable and scary to let others be a part of it – as if they’re peering into my soul.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love Agritopia in Gilbert! It’s a little farm and community that’s cute. The farm grows food for the restaurant, Joes Farm Grill, and there’s a cute coffee shop too.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mom, who introduced me to jewelry making when I was very young. She made and sold jewelry to make ends meet, and many of my designs are inspired by the creations she made when I was a child. She is an incredible entrepreneurial woman, and has always been such an inspiration to me. I would not have my business if it wasn’t for her.
