We had the good fortune of connecting with Rosanna Lantigua and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rosanna, why did you pursue a creative career?
The reason why I have pursued an artistic career is because I have always loved art since I was a child. I took an art class in high school, and have always enjoyed it. Art was always a form of therapy for me it has allowed me to cope with my mental illness and to express my emotions through my art. Being an Artist has also allowed me to be able to share my story with many people, and in turn, many others also have shared their stories when dealing with mental illness.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I first started working as a nurse back in 2008. I then became a Registered Nurse in 2010, and eventually, I went back to school at Grand Canyon University and received my BSN in nursing. When I worked as a nurse, I always used art as my therapy on the side. This helped me cope with my emotions, working with medically fragile children.
My career and past childhood traumas eventually affected my mental health in 2013 and 2018. During this time, I began to paint more and started my Art business in 2021. I have been part of and attended different events in Maricopa County, that provided me the opportunity to sell my art. I also started my online business. I provide my customers with different types of paintings like pouring paint and acrylic paintings. On my art website, I give others the options to choose from different products I sell with my art incorporated into them. For instance, they can choose a T-shirt or shoes with my art on them.
Since then, I have been doing my art business to help stop the stigma of mental illness; to help others use art, as a way to cope with their emotions and manage their mental health. What sets me apart from others is that I use a different variety of artwork like portraits, abstracts, oil paintings, and realism. I also use my art earnings to help donate to Central Arizona Shelter Services (CASS), the homeless shelter service in Phoenix, in addition to other charities that are important to me
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
To show the best time ever to a best friend who came to visit me in the area would be to take her to the Vision Gallery in Downtown Chandler and also to Chandlers Art Museum. Where we would likely go out to eat is at BJs Brewer they have the most delicious healthy meals to eat. We would also hang out in Downtown Chandler to check out the small family-owned businesses and go watch a movie at Look Dine-in Cinema. Another fun activity to do during the week would be to go to Hamilton Aquatic Center in Chandler go swimming and have a fun time there.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to thank God, and my family for supporting my dreams of being an artist, they have always encouraged me to pursue my dreams of being an artist. I have also received support from the City Council of Chandler and the Mayor of Chandler which have allowed me to be an art commissioner of the City of Chandler, this has allowed me to share my opinions of other artists who are given the opportunity to share and display their art in the City of Chandler. Another important opportunity I was given was to display my art as an art vendor for FuelFest a car show founded by Cody Walker to raise money for Reach Out WorldWide (ROWW) a non-profit organization founded by Paul Walker before he passed.
