We had the good fortune of connecting with Samantha Murray and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Samantha, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Due to my husband and I owning another business, when starting Spelled with Love Decor & Gifts I made this a priority right away. I did markets at the beginning so during the week I would do my best to carve out time to dedicate to myself, my children, and my husband. I’m not going up lie and act like it always happened that way, believe me when I say there are times I’m busier than others. With the holidays approaching I try to spend some extra time to relax because they are typically the busiest time for most small businesses.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Since I was a little girl I’ve always been an entrepreneur at heart. I would go wash my neighbor’s cars, have lemonade stands, really anything I could do to make some extra money and help those in need. Really that’s where my heart has always been, helping others feel important and loved. I think that’s something that’s helps my business stand out. I first started creating the definition signs as gifts for the people I love, customizing them to say the things my children and I love about them. I receive so many messages from people talking about how their loved one LOVED their gift and that it brought them to tears. THAT is what I want my business to always be about. When people receive my sign from someone they love I want their hearts to be full. My motto is spreading love one sign at a time., and I believe that’s what I’m doing over here.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So, first I would stop at 808 Social for a coffee and a musubi. We would then venture out to downtown Buckeye and visit Screws and Sparkles. This building is truly filled with soo much love that you can feel it when you walk in the doors. There’s also a coffee shop in there named Degino Coffee if another boost is required because you can truly spend a couple hours wondering through the shop. We’d stop for lunch at Rancheros before heading out to North Peoria to visit 85 Local. They have some of the cutest clothes in their shop and their filled with a ton of local makers to check out too. We definitely couldn’t miss out on heading to Scottsdale Fashion Square Mall and checking out the new space there called Retail Therapy AZ. Not only are the owners incredible, they have done an amazing job at creating a space for so many local vendors. We’d end our day at Don’s NY Pizza on Peoria Ave. Not only is the pizza to die for, the owners are AMAZING.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Oh my goodness, honestly there’s quite a few who always always always cheer me on. If I had to choose one person it would most definitely be my husband, Kevin. He has always lifted me up even when I’m feeling down, because it’s important to remember owning a small business isn’t always sunshine and rainbows. He celebrates every single win with me, and helps me come up with a solution If something doesn’t go the way as planned. He my official table saw master because that thing scares the crap out of me for some reason. He’s my best friend and when my house is decorated with signs, and we’re not able to eat dinner at the kitchen table for the fourth night in a row, he doesn’t make a fuss. I’m grateful that he understands and is kind to my mama heart.
