Meet Schyler Anderson | Wedding Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Schyler Anderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Schyler, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
In highschool, everyone knew what they wanted to go to college for and do for a living after school. I had no idea what I wanted to do, and I felt really lost. I started thinking about things I was good at, and things I enjoyed to do. I’ve picked up a lot of hobbies in my life, but none of them really stuck – except photography. I was always taking photos of EVERYTHING, and constantly had a camera in my hand. I thought, why not make this my career? I tried tons of creative portraiture, eventually moved on to doing commercial work for various brands, and then finally discovered weddings. Once I photographed my first wedding, I knew that was where I belonged.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being a wedding photographer is truly where I belong. There are plenty of photographers out there who picked up a camera recently and decided to be a photographer, however I never really decided to be one. Being a photographer chose me. I’ve had a camera in my hands since I was 10 years old, and it’s become an extension of my arm at this point.

Photography has always been a life-long passion for me. Collecting special moments that normally would never be seen again is something I just can’t let go of. At one point in my adventure with photography, I lost what it meant to me. I focused on “pretty” images, “trendy” photos, and “instagram-worthy” shots and I almost lost my passion. Photographing weddings has brought that passion back. I am able to capture such important, emotional, and once-in-a-lifetime memories, and I am so grateful for it.

I live for gooey, giggly, real love. The big laughs where your noses scrunch up, the way you look at your partner when they can’t see, and all the little in-between sweet moments that most people don’t even see. Capturing true love is my passion – on your wedding day, during your engagement session, and through getting to know both of you and your love story. I’m not here for the Instagram fame or the money, I’m here for my couples because I know how special it is to have permanent memories of not only your wedding day, but the love that you share with your other half – and I feel honored to be entrusted with telling your story.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am forever grateful to Kristen Hennke and Jonathan Allison for allowing me to second shoot with them at weddings for over a year to learn from them and prepare myself for my career.
