Meet Mairead Buschtetz | Joint owner of Cuisine & Wine Bistro

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mairead Buschtetz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mairead, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
We opened our first business together when we were 20 years old, so I suppose that you would say in our minds it’s the only way to do things! My husband Fabrice, is a third-generation restaurant owner, but the only one to have gone through culinary school. We met in 1988 while working at a hotel near the airport CDG. My hotel experience and his culinary experience made us a great match!
What should our readers know about your business?
I am extremely blessed, I am married to a very talented French Chef. Back in France, my husband was known as a Sauce Master, so he creates incredible sauces to compliment his dishes. Our restaurant is very different from any other restaurant in Arizona, because you have my husband Fabrice & our oldest son Steven, both working in our kitchen. In the dining room, you have our second son Killian, and his wife Monica running the FOH. You walk in the door and you are surrounded by our family, bringing their European training, into a beautifully laid-out restaurant. Killian is a certified Sommelier and thanks to his dedication, we are proud to be noted in Wine Spectator for the third year running. We have over 200 references. If you follow us on social media, you will be impressed by the beautiful photos that we publish every week (our specials change weekly). Our daughter-in-law Clementine – Steven’s wife, is a food photographer, so when we publish our mouth-watering photos, our phone starts ringing for reservations!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When we have European friends visiting, we always drive out to Tortilla Flat (we live in Gold Canyon), the views are magnificent on the way. We have a beer at the bar there and a burger & fries. Our friends sometimes rent out Harley Davidsons and then they can ride with us, we go to Saguaro Lake, Campo Verde, Fountain Hills and have lunch in Cave Creek, before turning back. We always have a wonderful time and we try to not use the freeway so that they can take in the beautiful scenery! We love to organize a ride to Showlow, leaving from Gold Canyon, going through Globe & the Salt River Valley. The views are breathtaking. Sometimes if our friends aren’t exhausted, we come home via Payson… visitors are just as in awe of the scenery as we are.
We really enjoy the Silver King Smokehouse & Saloon, in Superior. We drive there (away from the heavy traffic in the Valley) for their wonderful barbecue and craft beer!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We are a husband and wife team, we complement each other in our decisions. My husband desperately wanted to move to the US in the 90’s but I wanted to raise our children in France. Fast forward to 2013 we moved to Arizona with our 3 children in tow. So yes I have multiple people to thank 1) my husband for being patient for 25 years, while I got to live the life I had imagined. 2) our three children who trusted us and loved us enough to give up their friends and lives that they had in Europe, to follow us. 3) to the good people that we have met in the last ten years, whether it be neighbors, dear friends, or the members of the Chandler Chamber of Commerce who have been there for us on so many occasions.
