We had the good fortune of connecting with Siena Snedeker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Siena, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I wanted to continue helping individuals in my community. My craft started with phlebotomy and has grown; currently finishing my pre-requisitions to apply for the nursing program at Mohave Community College.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started out as a phlebotomist PRN for a small on call business, when the contract ended I started working at Havasu Regional Medical Center as a phlebotomist while building my clientele for my Mobile phlebotomy business and working out the kinks in procedures. I quickly discovered that I loved the quick pace of the ER and transferred departments. Once I transferred to the ER I decided to go back to school and become a Registered Nurse. While working on my nursing degree I’ve had an amazing ER family support me the whole way! All while pursing bigger and better contracts with the phlebotomy business. I have two employees and am looking for a third. It has not always been easy. It’s been a lot of work, even more sleepless nights, and I’ve learned to juggle being a mother to six children (4 still at home), wife, business owner, student, and employee. I eventually want to be a Registered Nurse/Midwife.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love Havasu. We have summer sports and winter sports. Summer we go boating or take out the jet skis, BBQ at the beach, and dinner at Javalina. Winter we hike Sara’s Crack, go roller skating, take the horses out in trail rides, head out to the desert shooting ranges, BBQ in the backyard and sit around the fire.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Tina Dawson and Yvonne St. John have greatly encouraged and influenced my path in opening my own Mobile lab and with the success I have have obtained. Tina was my phlebotomy instructor and Yvonne gave me the chance to really hone in on my skills while doing investigative collections for a local police department.
