We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Tyeasa Jones PMHNP-BC and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Tyeasa, what principle do you value most?
The most crucial value and principle for me? It’s a profound inquiry that warrants a straightforward and unwavering response. What holds the utmost significance to me is perseverance, particularly in a world dominated by perpetual change. As for my guiding principle, I adhere to being spontaneous and forthright with my clients, fostering a respectful and non-judgmental environment that encourages them to explore their challenging emotions. Like everyone else, I grapple with the challenge of staying faithful to my principles and values. This, I suppose, is what sets me apart—similar to the unique struggles faced by the clients I serve.

What should our readers know about your business?
What sets The Way Wellness and my psychiatric practice apart is our commitment to treating each individual uniquely. Here, clients are encouraged to express their feelings without prejudice or bias regarding their life’s journey. We provide a space where each person can comfortably open up, sharing their story without conforming to a scripted or strictly academic approach. When I established this practice, my vision was to create a safe haven for people like myself who needed a supportive environment to discuss their emotions, voices, and fears—a place where addressing inner struggles could lead to viable solutions. Additionally, I aim to eliminate the stigma associated with psychiatry, encouraging individuals to seek the medication management necessary to achieve mental balance.

Reflecting on what makes me most proud, it’s the woman I’ve become. Despite facing challenges such as enduring an 18-year-long unsuccessful marriage that left me as a single mother of three, and being born to a young mother, I have managed to overcome the odds, particularly as a woman of color. Starting from difficult beginnings doesn’t determine the entire story or journey one will lead. I refuse to let my past dictate my narrative. I take pride in my small business, envisioning it to grow into something large and robust. The lessons learned include the pain of failure, the resilience required to restart, and overcoming doubts from those afraid to confront their own fears.

Believing in myself, regardless of the outcome, has been a crucial lesson. Waking up each morning, facing the day with the knowledge that I am steering my own path, defines success for me. This journey is both the pillar and the mirror reflecting my success. I want the world to know that I am here, and The Way Wellness is just the beginning of my broader platform, which will include my brand of a podcast and, one day, a men’s nonprofit. This platform will serve as a space for individuals to openly discuss their past, present, and future. It aims to create a safe environment where people can share and support each other in this abundant world we live in.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
On the first day, the morning kicks off with horseback riding at Koli Equestrian Center on the Gila River Reservation. Starting the day with a scenic ride, watching the sunrise, sets the perfect atmosphere for engaging conversations and prepares us for a hearty breakfast at one of my favorite spots. If shes lucky we will see the wild mustags running here in Maricopa. Following the horseback adventure, hunger sets in, and there’s no better place for a satisfying breakfast than Hash Kitchen in Chandler. It’s an excellent way to introduce my best friend from Florida to the Arizona dining experience.

After refueling, we gather ourselves for a visit to downtown Scottsdale, exploring shops and immersing ourselves in the diverse culture that Arizona offers. Since it’s the first Friday of the month, we make our way to Roosevelt Row for the vibrant event known as “First Friday.” This includes people-watching, viewing local artwork, and exploring offerings from various local vendors. Also dancing with the crowd is s must during First Friday activities. Fun!

On Saturday, an early start takes us to Sedona or perhaps Prescott. Prescott holds a special place in my heart as one of my favorite hidden gems, thanks to its picturesque green landscapes and the genuine cowboy culture that adds to the city’s charm. Despite its gradual integration with visitors, Prescott maintains its authenticity. Attending the rodeo and experiencing the warm Southern hospitality extended by the locals make it a fantastic destination.

Phoenix boasts the convenience of everything being within driving distance, and the diverse mix of people turns any excursion into an adventure, no matter where the day takes you. Whether it’s exploring food trucks, sampling wine from mobile vendors, enjoying jazz in the downtown scene, or opting for a tranquil day on the reservation, Phoenix is the place to be!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My current life situation is deeply connected to my upbringing and the sacrifices made on my behalf, notably by my mother, who became a parent at the age of 14. Observing her journey, characterized by challenges and unwavering determination, has ingrained in me a profound strength. Despite the presence of two sets of parents at home and additional support from others, it is my mother’s relentless efforts that stand out as pivotal to my current success. Her challenges taught me that there are no limits to what I can achieve. I embraced my own struggles, drawing strength from my faith and self-belief to reach where I am today.

Furthermore, my remarkable children serve as the heroes in my narrative. They have consistently motivated me to strive for the best in a life marked by considerable uncertainty following my unsuccessful marriage. Despite the challenges, I persevered. Love arrived, love departed, yet unwaveringly, I have persisted in my pursuit of establishing this practice.

Embarking on the journey to establish my practice, I encountered numerous setbacks that might have caused others to give up. Yet, for me, it felt like my personal battle, akin to an episode of Rocky. I owe a significant debt of gratitude to my family, but above all, I credit the God I serve, whose love and encouragement empowered me to overcome fears and create a non-biased haven for psychiatric care, welcoming individuals to express their uniqueness.

While facing challenges, I’ve encountered individuals who doubted and hindered my progress. Despite this, I harbor no resentment; instead, I am driven to rise above and continue assisting those in need. Through my journey, I’ve realized that becoming the best version of oneself and evolving in one’s story requires more than a village—it takes a nation of love, support, and an abundance of resilience.
