Meet Dimitra Trejo | Director of Public Relations and Marketing

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dimitra Trejo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dimitra, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Balance is detrimental. I’m currently in a position that requires so much of my time. However I love what I do and am honored I was chosen for the job – with a toddler and one on the way balancing work and home will be a challenge – but that’s why they say “it takes a village” to raise a baby- and I intend to tap into that village often!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m currently a Director of Public Relations and Marketing for a local independent school district. I have to Pinch myself everyday and ask myself, “How the heck did I get this gig?” It’s funny but also plays into my imposter syndrome I’m trying to combat.
The best way to learn is to throw yourself into experiences and roles.
You’ll never learn everything from inside a textbook and you’ll never be fully ready for the next step – so dare to dream and dive right in!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The RGV’s entertainment and gastronomy scene is growing immensely!
There is so much to see and do that will please all your senses!
But the true gem – I love that we live about 15 minutes from the Mexican border. We go there for dental work, delicious food, dancing, drinks, shopping and culture – it’s you’re one stop shop and that would be the first place I’d take them!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
As a first generation college student – my mother deserves all her roses.
Having only a third grade education, she pushed me and my siblings to work hard.
I never thought I’d get to be a director let alone before the age of 35 – I’m so proud of myself and I owe it to her.
Additionally the RGV – where I come from – has a plethora of women networking organizations that I love and owe a great deal of support to.
Organization of Women Executives, Junior League of McAllen, FemCity RGV all allowed me to meet amazing, strong women and make me realize I could do bad ass things too!
