We had the good fortune of connecting with Scott Charbonneau and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Scott, how does your business help the community?
We seek to help people in our community enjoy eating food that tastes great. Having raised 5 kids, we have seen how few people cook from scratch and use spices for additional health benefits.

Our Spice Club specifically focuses on households of two and teaches people how to cook small meals that taste great and limit waste.

For global impact, our cookbook, “A Father’s Hug from the Kitchen” (available on Amazon) is geared towards families and those cooking for gathering. Plus, all of our Amazon book royalties go directly to the Kenya Orphanage Project to build a school for the orphans.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I have been in retail management for 25+ years. I enjoy helping the people around me become the best they can be but I always knew there was more to me than that and cooking is my creative outlet.

I love to see the joy on peoples faces when they share a meal that I have created.

This journey has not been easy, but it has 100% been worth it! Challenges present us with opportunities for growth and we know Awaken Joy Spice Co is on the cusp of exponential growth and impact!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The Desert Botanical Gardens for showing the beauty of the desert. Right next door to that is the Phoenix Zoo and Papago park.

We love showing off the sunsets and any activities that allow for us to spend time chatting and eating great food.

We like the adventure of trying new places we follow on social media or learn about through friends and acquaintances, especially pizza places!

For years we have made pizza on the grill, and pizza joints holds a special place in our hearts because Amy and I met over pizza with mutual friends.

We were introduced to Lou Malnati’s and Grimaldis both of which interested us and were delish.

But Craft 64 in Old Town Scottsdale is probably our favorite.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
None of this would be possible without the love and support of my wife, Amy Charbonneau. She is the most dedicated and supportive person I have met and she helps everyone around her to be a better version of themselves.

I would also like to thank my daughter Ceana for inspiring me to make new recipes and to keep her and her friends challenging me with new things to cook (Korean corn dogs were interesting)!
