Meet Cass Martin | Fitness Instructor & Social Media Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Cass Martin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cass, what role has risk played in your life or career?
As an entrepreneur, I’ve learned that taking risks is vital for achieving my goals and living my dream life. I’ve embraced the mindset that even when I fail miserably, it’s okay to start completely over. Every risk I’ve taken, regardless of the outcome, has provided valuable experience that help guide my future decisions in both life and business. Though it has been a roller coaster of ups and downs, taking risks has ultimately built my internal confidence.
What should our readers know about your business?
I currently own and operate an umbrella of health and fitness brands that include a comprehensive training app, fitness apparel company, health wellness blog, as well as various social media accounts dedicated to helping people along their own fitness journey. I have always been passionate about wanting to learn about health from all angles and not just what is on the outside but how people feel, think, and move. My business started to grow once I started to publish training videos on social media eight years ago and has evolved with me over this time. I am probably most excited right now for my training app and health blog. I am putting most of my focus on this in 2024 to create the best community I can of people who are looking into improving their well being and sharing their journey so we can all learn from each other and apply. This concept has evolved with me as I have aged and realized that training just for looks is not what “health” truly is and I want to be able to connect with anyone looking to get healthy from going to the gym, at home training, flexibility issues, or just want to have a place to share healthy recipes and asks questions. There have been many challenges to get to the point where I am lucky enough to be in online and the biggest one was when my husband and i sold our construction business to gamble on ourselves in an environment online we know nothing about. It was very scary to start a complete new career and have no prior knowledge of how things operate but it has also been the most rewarding and the new skills we both have learned make me feel like nothing is impossible. I am naturally a people pleaser and moving into a more authoritative role was a struggle to me because I always just wanted to make everyone happy even if that was not myself. One thing that took me awhile to learn and adapt when growing our team is “hire slow and fire fast”. I have had to learn to give someone fully 100 trust right away and also find the balance that if its just not working efficiently then it is ok to move on. One of the other factors in trying to grow my business has been the struggle of time management and balance. When you run ecommerce business there is no on and off hours. The internet is alive all hours and people are wanting to reach your business or service on their time not yours. I have had to really set times where I can just step away and not feel guilt or stress knowing I can get to matters the next day. Setting your own hours is a blessing and curse because you have to prioritize what matters most. With everything I try to do I just try and do things that align with myself. I have always tried to just be me and not fall into too many trends or fads while still trying to carve my own path. I have always trained in the gym and showcased my social media profiles in a way that I wanted to and the same thing goes for my clothing company. I wanted a clothing company that was good materials that made women feel confident and did not break the bank. I did not want to be another fitness influencer who just wanted to overcharge and exploit their following just for self monetary gains. I come from very blue collar roots and to this day know how hard it is to earn a dollar and just hope I can give some value to someones life along the way.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First thing is I would look for a comedy show at one of the many comedy spots here in the valley and take them to stand up. I love Tempe Improv & stand up live. Some of my top spots to take people for food is always- OEB for breakfast. For dinners I love taking friends to Persephen because I love all local seasonal menu items and quality food. Another few resteraunts that are always on the list are Campo Itialian, PaLa’ , and for pizza my favorite place is Lamp Pizzeria.
One of my Favorite things about Arizona is the Local food sources and if I am cooking at home or for friends a business I love supporting is Arcadia Meat market for anything fresh local meats almost all sourced from arizona including local wines.
I love taking friends and family to the Orange patch and getting local oranges because most people do not realize Arizona grows some amazing citrus.
We would 100 percent be riding some mountain bike trails at Browns Ranch trailhead or Hawes Trails in Mesa for some excercise as well as just early morning and sunset hikes to show them the beauty of the desert sunsets.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My special shoutout would be to my husband Hunter. He is the one who kickstarted my fitness career by inviting me to the gym and introducing something to me that would change our lives forever. Not only has he been there for every gym session we have also started and ran 4 businesses together. We have worked together everyday for the last 13 years and been through so many different business ventures from owning our own construction company, flipping homes, to both learning the ins and out of social media and now running online e-commerce business together. It truly has been a wild ride and glad we have each other to lean on.
