Meet Vanja Nikolovski | Conductor, Composer, and Music Educator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Vanja Nikolovski and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vanja, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I believe in balance, since is the most important thing to manage private and professional life.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
First of all, I enter the music universe after I turned 5. So, it has been a while. Musical life is not easy at all, you are either on the top or you are nowhere. I see myself as a workaholic. Coming from the Republic of Macedonia, which means far away, I was seeking new challenges in US. It is very brave, or crazy to leave the country being in great position in music institutions, and to come to the unknown place to explore new experiences. The biggest lesson I learned was that I needed to remain very patient, to work hard, waiting for society to recognize my work. I also learned that no matter what, passion, dedication, and hard work will pay off one day. My message to the people in music circles is to never give up. If they love what they do, if they practice well, the success will come for sure. That is my path and I wish it for everyone.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am living in Arizona, very rich country with beautiful places. I usually have a plan when people visit. Will take them to Sedona, Tombstone, Benson to see Kartchner Caverns, and of course the gorgeous Grand Canyon. We can also expand our trip to Nevada (everyone want to see Vegas) and California. If I have friends, relatives who like nature, I definitely will take them to Utah and Colorado.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my family, my wife and my children. They are the huge part, huge encouragement and support in my life.
