We had the good fortune of connecting with Lilian Campa and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lilian, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
We wanted to continue Kate’s Legacy by forming a non-profit foundation that would support children / families going through a cancer journey.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
AdvoKATE Foundation is a non-profit volunteer organization created to honor Kate Campa’s legacy by raising awareness and funds to fight childhood cancer. We are devoted to bringing more Resources to our Yuma County Community, Advocating for our families currently on the journey, providing funds for Ewing Sarcoma Research and Educating our Yuma County community on Childhood Cancer. Our mission and vision comes from our very own leader Kate Campa. On Kate’s last Instagram post on July 27, 2020, she shared “I will always stand up for what is right and I will always be an advocate for kids cancer. Many kids don’t even have options to live and fight. I know one day a cure will happen, and when it does I know that so many kids won’t have to suffer like I have been suffering.”

A little about Kate….
Kate Campa was born on February 6, 2004. She danced from the age of 2 1/2 and started her competition dance career with her first solo at the age of 5. She was an incredibly gifted dancer, had a contagious smile and loved with no bounds. On December 13, 2018 Kate was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. She was in remission for 5 months before relapsing on her 16th birthday. She underwent more treatments with no luck. Kate passed away on October 7, 2020. Kate’s advice to others was “Never Give Up, Follow Your Dreams and Inspire Others.” Kate’s motto was “Life’s too Short!” and she lived life to the fullest in her own way.
Her legacy will continue through AdvoKATE Foundation, Inc. We will continue to Live#KatesWay!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
AdvoKATE Foundation Board Members are a blessing to our foundation. They are community volunteers that are passionate about helping our community in Yuma County and supporting Childhood Cancer. Each member is talented, dedicated and has walked the cancer journey with Kate and our family. Each had a personal connection with Kate and saw first hand how this disease affected Kate, children and young adults.
