We had the good fortune of connecting with Shannon Breen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shannon, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always had a burning entrepreneurial spirit after 10 years inside the walls of one of Americas trucking institutions , covid, and some cancer within my extended family I felt like making the leap and starting FreightVana.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve always been an avid competitor and my own personal harshest critic which has always helped me to perform at a high level compared to my peers. Whether it be sports or business I take great pride in leading a team and setting the tone. Being undersized and underskilled I always felt that I had to work harder than those around me and I’ve continued that mentality in almost every facet of my life.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d take them on a hike in the McDowell mountains and then ideally a round of golf at the Raven in South Phoenix.

For food we’d go across the street from my old high school , Chandler High, and we’d go to Elmer’s taco shop for what I would characterize as the “best bean burrito in the world”.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Adam Miller, now CFO & President at Knight-Swift, offered me and opportunity in transportation when I was looking to transition out of finance back in the Summer of 2012.
