We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Beget and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, what do you attribute your success to?
Work ethic, drive and high expectations! Yes, I said it and I admit it, high expectations. My work ethic, my drive to always learn more and the high expectations I have on myself, my team, vendors etc., are the most important factors behind the success of my business. I’ll touch on high expectations first. I am not sure why I am wired this way, but I am wired with high expectations. I feel it’s an extremely important attribute to the success of my business and a huge factor as to why clients choose to work with me. Next, work ethic and drive… I feel many people have a degree, education and work experience.  What sets me apart is a determined work ethic, a drive to educate myself, a passion to constantly improve from all experiences and to continually learn new skills. I have an innate drive to work hard, which I get from my mother. I call myself a “natural laborer,” ha! It’s a blessing and a curse, but I am so thankful for it!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are an interior design firm who does not rinse and repeat common designs. We love to challenge our design ideas for each client we work with, both residential and commercial. We are experts at conquering different design styles that perfectly suit our clients aesthetic. We set ourselves apart due to who we are, as individuals, not just designers. I can 100% confidently say all of our clients are close friends, acquaintances and referrals. There is nothing better than happy clients who send you referrals! Working with an interior designer is typically a long process. With a close and positive working relationship a fantastic design outcome will transpire!

How did you get to where you are today business-wise. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way.

I honestly struggled to figure out what I wanted my “career” to be. As simple as it sounds, I just wanted to be happy and not hate what I did to make a living. I continued to work different jobs, while putting myself through college earning my undergraduate degree in Communications and a masters degree in Business. Shortly after my husband and I were married we purchased our first home in 2013 and the remodeling process peaked my interest in interior design. I definitely knew I had an aesthetic and interest when it came to fashion, style of my home, etc, but I honestly never thought about making a career out of something which came easy to me! Again, while working full time I decided to go back to school and take a night course at Scottsdale Community College in interior design. I had absolutely zero intentions of getting another degree at 30 years old and shifting careers, but that’s exactly what I did. I received my degree in Interior Design and was on the ASID Student Board (ASID: Association for Interior Designers) while in school. I also started an LLC while in design school, took on small design projects on the side and I interned/worked at multiple architecture and design firms. Then, after a few years with the encouragement of my husband and a mentor I opened J Beget Designs in 2018.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband is my number one fan! I feel your spouse should be your number one fan, and I am so lucky mine is! My husband believes in me more than I believe in myself at times. I truly feel I wouldn’t be where I am today, running a successful design firm if I didn’t have such an incredible, loving and supportive husband. Camille Self with Camille Self Designs, is a friend and mentor of mine who had a big impact on encouraging me to start my own design business too. I met Camille in design school, Camille went back to get another degree and start a new career in something she had always loved, after she retired! Isn’t that amazing?!
