We had the good fortune of connecting with Sabine Garrido and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sabine, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I had wanted more flexibility with work hours, since my daughter was small and it would have been very difficult working as a pastry chef otherwise. I love what I am doing and could not imagine working in a different field.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think our passion for what we are doing sets us apart from a lot of other places. We are very detail oriented and genuinely want to bring a bit of joy into the lives of our customers. We are proud of our product not just design wise but also taste wise. We still make everything from scratch and you can taste and see the difference. Being part of other people’s special celebrations feels like a privilege.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love New York City and some of my favorite places are the river fronts. We live in Queens and Long Island city waterfront offers a glorious sunset with spectacular city views. Bike riding along the Westside Hudson River Drive is also a must for any Visitor. The highline walk is wonderful in any season and of course Central Park is a must. In general, I would always recommend to just walk around a lot and suck up the atmosphere. It is like no other place on the planet and you should find your own favorite little spots. And of course you can’t beat what NYC has to offer culture wise. One of my favorite museums apart from MOMA is the Noguchi Museum In Queens, it is a beautiful space to recharge from the hectic life all around. There are so many little pop up events, you could write a whole book on it.
I am big on ethnic food and love the smaller non fancy restaurant you can find in the different neighborhoods. There are some great Mexican places in Bushwick and along Roosevelt Ave in Queens and of course fantastic dumpling places in Flushing. So many new places are popping up all the time, it is easy to lose track of them.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Definitely my husband and co workers at our shop. Without them it would have not been possible to do what we are doing.
