We had the good fortune of connecting with Jared Blackstone and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jared, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I used to take as many gigs as I could and now I try to take a couple vacations in the summer to kind of recharge the batteries a little bit so when I do get back to work I appreciate it more.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I currently play with my band The Blackstone Three as well as playing Waylon Jennings in The American Highwaymen as well as playing many solo acoustic gigs. Until Covid came and stopped the train I was playing all solo gigs at the Four Seasons and J.W. Marriott and a few other bars around Phoenix. Then with everything being locked down I had time to write and record my original songs, something I hadn’t done for quite sometime. Also at around that time I got a call from my buddy Brian Hauser asking me to record some guitars and sing the Waylon Jennings parts on a new version of the song Highwayman, so with not much going on I did. A few weeks later we shot a video and caught the eye of our current management company TAD Management and for the last three years we’ve been traveling around the country as The American Highwaymen having a blast. I also put together my own band The Blackstone Three with Buddy Cash on Bass and Joey Spadafore on drums and we re-recorded my original songs and put them out on all the digital platforms. There have been a lot of challenges as far as scheduling and getting all the guys together because well are all in different bands and various projects but even with all that I really found that I had missed playing with other people and how much more fulfilling it is.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well first I would take them to Old Town Scottsdale down to The Old Town Tavern, The Back Door, Rusty Spur or Belle’s Nasville Kitchen for some bar food and great live music. I always like going to hike up in Cave Creek and then going to watch the bull riding at Buffalo Chip and getting some good BBQ at Harold’s and some country dancing. We also have some great Zoo’s and museums like the MIM (Musical Instrument Museum).

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
