Meet Jennifer Lind | Wedding and Portrait Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Lind and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, how does your business help the community?
Jennifer Lind Schutsky LLC art and photography, impacts the world and my community by building a strong network of enthusiastic and supportive people. The main reason I photograph events and special occasions is because I want people to have memory of those significant life moments when people came together in support and honor of them. It’s really important to me that people feel safe and loved and have that significant experience of human connection. And so, it’s a gift for me, to be able to sit back and observe and document those moments for them. And I think it really fosters strong connection with their community when they look back at those photos and they can see the people that were there for them, showed up for them, cared about them, and it is a little treasure to have something like that after the moment. Moments aren’t ever the same again, right now only happens once and I’ve seen people who’ve used photos I’ve taken in memory of family that have passed and that’s always really an important reminder to me as photographer that we’re not just preserving a really fun fancy event but rather capturing these moments so people have memories for years to come even if the people in the photos aren’t with us anymore.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think that what sets me apart from others is my brutal honesty. I just have to say what I’m thinking and without awareness for consequences to my own detriment sometimes. I think it’s important to be honest and clear with your expectations and I think sometimes it’s hard to hear the truth, but that’s what I pride myself on most. My honesty. And I also think this question about what your differences are can be divisive in terms of artist communities where we’re always trying to do something different than the people around us and I like to shift my focus and to think about what about us makes us the same or similar? That’s my vision, which I guess is something that sets me apart from others because it can be frustrating and feel like you’re not as good as other people but if you take the time and look what actually connects you with others, you feel a lot better about yourself and the people around you, less misunderstood.
I got to where I am professionally with a lot of hard work and a lot of play and a lot of experience. I feel like I’ve lived many lifetime in my 38 years and I feel like I’ve been a mom and educator and now it’s just my opportunity to use all those time and skills of the things that I learned and actually apply them to my business and my success. It definitely wasn’t easy but just waking up every day keep going keep learning something new keep expressing yourself keep trying to make art for the sake of art and I can’t walk away from photography. It’s my passion and I love it so even if I wasn’t doing it professionally, I would be doing it for myself and I think that that’s the kind of business you wanna have something that makes you feel excited for it every day. The lessons I’ve learned along the way are perseverance, making real connections with the people around you, getting to know people valuing them for who they are, and allowing them to show you who they are. I think I’d like the world to know that I’m not going anywhere. I’m here for the long run and I care about my clients and their stories and it’s a passion of mine too to document these moments for people so they’re always gonna be the best. I’m only gonna get better from here on out.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh my gosh, the Virgo rising me loves this question. I love a good itinerary. I love to make a plan so let’s say best friend arrives on Tuesday because flights are always cheap on Tuesday.
I would start with picking up at the airport. We would stop at Lux on our way back stop for coffee and a snack, get settled in maybe do dinner at home. I love to cook even my kitchen is not the most up-to-date. It’s still highly functioning. Space that makes me feel happy. I painted all the cabinets with little murals.
Wednesday morning wake up and go for a hike or go to the gym depending on the weather maybe nearby park. We love a charcuterie board maybe make a picnic and a snack or get something to go from Dos Chris’. Come home read a book take a nap and then go back to the art museum because it’s pay what you want after 3 PM on Wednesdays we love that! Go walk around to check out the newest exhibits.
Thursday, maybe do a little work from home, everyone has to check their emails even on vacation. Maybe take a drive up out to the salt River. Just enjoy the water. Maybe go paddle boarding maybe go bike riding at Tempe town Lake.
Friday I would plan a day at a nearby spa or resort maybe; Mountain shadows, maybe hotel Valley Ho, maybe the Scott – somewhere like that, somewhere fun and trendy with a good restaurant on site maybe hang out by the pool. Then I’d hit up dinner in old town Scottsdale at Citizen Public House.
Saturday do the farmers market at Uptown farmers market – our favorite. We love Beal beans we love Mark Chaconne’s pastries, we love McClendon select produce, we love Little Italy of Scottsdale, so I wanna show them all of those places. Th res of Saturday would just be a chill day. Hang out.
Sunday. I’d make a day trip out of it maybe go to Tucson or Sedona depending on our feels.
Monday. Hit up a few of my more favorite restaurants maybe lunch at a little O’s, press coffee, Windsor, Churn. And anywhere else I missed. yeah I think most of the trip revolve around food.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I love this question because I am a big believer in gratitude always. Even our hardest lessons and they are struggles are our best teachers, and so I am so grateful for all of my missed opportunities the frustration that I’ve experienced in starting my business and trying to find clients all of those struggles have led me to where I am today, so definitely want to give things to adversity and challenges. I think perseverance and grit are really important tools and any entrepreneurs toolbox. However, I also have a few people that I really helped me get to where I am and I want to thank them to Photographer that I work with for a lot of weddings and really let me get started in my own experiences, Amber from Juniper Co. photo and video. She’s been a lovely mentor and guide in learning all things weddings. I also want to think several people within my creative and supportive community; Pashlee, Lauren, Tara, Serina, Meesh, Kayla, Holly, Jessi, Cameron and a million other clients over the years. Literally anyone who hired me when I was just starting and continues to like and share my work. I love you and I’m grateful.
