We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexxis Grant and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexxis, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind success is other people. Others will drive your success further then you could ever do alone. The biggest blessing is finding people who will be your support team, your sales force, and your fan base because they will drive you to be your best. No one has become a success or achieved anything with out the support of someone else.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being in a creative industry is a unique experience and it is never easy. The biggest lesson I have learned as a creative is that no one is coming to “discover” you. I had to take my creative energy and merge it with business smarts to achieve the goal of making photography my career. The business needed to come before the art if I was ever going to be able to do photography full time. The biggest challenge with that change was to over come the love of creating for the sake of creating. Once my artistic passion became work it lost a bit of the fun and had to pivot to finding new areas of passion within the art. Now having been a photographer and business owner for over 6 years, I would say I find the people interaction more exciting then the act of taking a photograph because the people in front of my camera are what bring my art to life.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting me here in Arizona I would first tell them to avoid the summer months and come out during the cooler weather. It’s too hot to do anything fun when it is 100+ degrees out!
The trip would then start with diner plans to a locally owned restaurant ( of which there are too many good ones to name), then we would plan to see one of the theatre shows, and explore downtown Phoenix for a night. I would then take then out for a hike in the superstition moutons and to the Lost Dutchman State park areas with a stop by the Salt River.
The rest of the trip would be spent exploring the northern part of Arizona with a planned road trip to see Flagstaff, Prescott, Jerome, Arcosanti, and Oak Creek Canyon.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shout out to those unlikely relationships I have with those further along the path than I who have taken time out of thier life to dedicate to supporting my journey.
