We had the good fortune of connecting with Bryan Bongard and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bryan, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
When it comes to risk, I believe it’s all about balancing a clean dive with a well-placed safety net. In the pool service business, especially in Chandler and Gilbert where we’ve got everything from backyard lagoons to lap pools, taking risks often means pushing for better technology, more efficient methods, or just trying out a new approach to servicing clients and with better problem-solving.
For me, risk-taking is like testing the waters—sometimes you get a splash of success, other times a wave of learning. I’ve found that being honest and transparent with clients about what’s possible and what isn’t helps to mitigate those risks. So, whether it’s implementing a new filtration system or navigating a particularly tricky algae bloom, I embrace risks with a mix of enthusiasm and caution, knowing that the best results often come from stepping out of the comfort zone.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
At Aqua Cop Pool Service, I’m the sole owner and operator, proudly keeping East Valley pools crystal clear. My entrepreneurial journey has had its share of waves. I launched a private event space and restaurant in Tempe, Creative Table AZ, just before COVID hit. The pandemic closed our doors within a year, and while that was a tough pill to swallow, it steered me toward a more stable and profitable venture.
Enter Aqua Cop Pool Service. I bought the business from my former pool guy, who had served the East Valley for over 15 years. With my background as a trained pump operator and expert, diving into this pool service was a natural fit. I spent three months training with the previous owner, learning the ropes for no pay—because who needs sleep when you’re passionate?
What sets us apart? Integrity. I’ve been on the wrong end of dishonest pool service, and I’m committed to being the honest change I wished I had. My goal is to make clients smile, whether through reliable service or saving them money. The journey might be a slow swim, but everyday along the way is a win for me. At Aqua Cop, we’re not just keeping pools clean—we’re making a splash in the community with every job.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friend was visiting, here’s how I’d plan the ultimate week-long Arizona adventure:
Day 1: We’d kick things off with a scenic drive to Sedona, where the red rocks are as impressive as my enthusiasm for tacos and fry bread. After checking in, we’d hike the stunning trails—I’ll even introduce them to Jazmine, my German Shepherd Husky, who’s a pro at leading us to hidden creekside spots.
Day 2-3: We’d dive into some UTVing for an adrenaline rush, then camp out under the stars, fishing for trout and sharing stories around an open fire. Nothing says ‘Arizona’ like fresh air and campfire cuisine.
Day 4: Back to the desert home for a backyard barbecue—steaks on the grill and a night swim in our sparkling pool. I’ll show off the perfect blend of relaxation and culinary delight.
Day 5-6: A day trip to Downtown Chandler for a sunset stroll, some quality cigar time, and soaking in the local vibe. We’ll explore the local shops and perhaps find a cozy spot to unwind.
Day 7: We’d wrap up with a visit to some lesser-known local gems— The Desert Botanical Garden, The Mission in Old Town, and the KOLI Equestrian Center. It’s the perfect way to end an unforgettable week.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Without a doubt, my 7-year-old son. He’s the splash of joy in my life and the heartbeat behind every venture I undertake. My wife and I swapped the hustle of NYC for the sunshine of Chandler to give him the best childhood possible. Every day, I strive to be a role model he can look up to, hoping to always be worthy of his love and admiration. In every pool I service and every challenge I tackle, I’m fueled by the desire to make him proud.
