Meet Jedidiah Collins | NFL / CFP® / Founder of Money Vehicle

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jedidiah Collins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jedidiah, what do you attribute your success to?
I am a great Failure!
Looking at my career this quality has truly been the secret to my success. Growing up with 2 older brothers, my dad created a basketball game called ‘King for a Day’. Where we would play 1X1 and the winner was crowned king. In the 1,000 times we played I remember the 2 days that I was King.
This taught me the skill that failure is not fatal and I could lose without being defeated. My measurement stopped being about just winning and became more about how Jed was improving.
As I have grown, I have begun to see “FAIL” as ‘First Attempt In Learning’. Again, not the end, not fatal, and not defeated, only a step in the learning process. This mindset was pivotal as I was cut 13 times in the NFL, failed a CFP® exam, lost a client in wealth management, was hit by Covid, ran into issues publishing my book, and truly everyday as an entrepreneur.
Today people see Jedidiah and see Money Vehicle’s grit as one of our biggest strengths. This has been completely derived from my ability to be a Great Failure.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me a part today form other financial advisors is that I journaled through my financial journey. Playing in the NFL was ana amazing dream, but for so many it becomes a nightmare because they do not capture the opportunity before them. I was not only able to capture the dream, but was able to capture the story as I documented it while going through it. This gives me an advantage over others in the field trying to teach because we forget so much as we begin to master a subject and I have the good fortune of seeing what I thought and the questions I was asking.
I also get to see a journal entry I made in June of 2008 when I wrote that I would want to come back and teach NFL players this language of money I wished someone had taught me.
15 years later, that dream in my journal has come to fruition and I teach half of the NFL how to see their NFL dreams in ‘Decades, not Days!’

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I imagine this is meant to be for AZ?
I got the good fortune to hike down into the Grand Canyon and raft the Colorado River. If you can ever repeat that trip, it will be a journey of a lifetime!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
During my days in the NFL I turned to a fellow Washington State Alumni and Football player turned CFP® Brett Carolan. Brett was well into his career as a financial advisor, working at RIA Brighton Jones. What I loved and appreciate about Brett is he had all the time in the world to educate me. I asked him hundreds of questions and he enjoyed my curiosity. I was not a client or anything more than someone Brett saw he could help.
Finally Brett challenged me by saying ‘I can give you fish all day long, but if you really want to understand this world and be able to fish on your own, you should go get your CFP®.’
That challenge and advice changed my life and I hope it leads to me changing many more.
