We had the good fortune of connecting with Joseph Martinelli and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joseph, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
well i was born in LA, but lived my whole life in AZ. Honestly with out my upbringing i wouldnt be doing what i am today. you see, my mom had a very abusive childhood. Her biggest concern was for her children to never become victims. This being said, once she got the chance she enrolled us into martial arts. Without out her going through the traumas she faced i would never of fell in love with martial arts. This is also why we take a huge approach in making sure our studio is a safe place for our kids but also a place for them to open up.

What should our readers know about your business?
At Uneed Martial Arts we are a martial arts school the specializes in real world safety and self defense. As it was taught to me by my teacher Master Mike Selmon, everyone thinks martial arts is about punching and kicking but it’s not. it’s about so much more than that. We try to bring the martial arts to those who may not normally try it but need it the most. From relaxed down to earth classes, to real life Anti-Abduction training and simulations. We want to inspire those to take their and their families safety seriously. All through trying to change the perception and stereotypes associated with martial arts

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
That’s hard to say. Here in phx we have a little bit of of everything for everyone. If i had to say downtown phx is one of the most unique city experiences. From hidden (and i mean hidden) restaurants and bars. to great music venues and amazing night life. Downtown phx is a one stop adventure.

On the other hand for nature lovers Sedona is an amazingly beautiful landscape filled with hikes art districts and again amazing restaurants. We love to eat here in Az

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
In my story there are two people who are the driving forces. First my mother Angelica, she my biggest fan. Then there is Master Mike Selmon he is my mentor, my inspiration and the Father figure i never had.

Lastly My team of dedicated Instructors without their belief and support we wouldn’t of been able to build something beautiful
