We had the good fortune of connecting with Angie Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I played college golf at Washington State University and went to work for The Golf Channel following graduation. After a short professional playing career, I landed a coaching job at Oregon State University. In 2004, I was hired to start a women’s golf program at Fresno State. Being involved in the wine industry wasn’t on my radar until 2008 when I attended a NCAA coaching seminar lead by then Arizona State University Women’s Golf Coach Linda Vollstedt. Coach V was an incredible coach and every year she held a seminar in which she invited 20 or so coaches from around the US. This particular year one of the presenters was a life coach who challenged us to come up with a plan B career. So many times, we are defined by what we do, but we are so much more than the career we have or the sport we play. The life coach asked us to come up with a dream job, a list of things we enjoy doing and tasked us with putting this plan B into action. At this time, those in the room were having successful coaching seasons and I doubt anyone was really looking to change careers, I know I wasn’t! The life coach was really encouraging us to find balance. To make sure that we were still finding time in our busy lives to be active in things we enjoy. So often we get wrapped up in our careers and lose sight of that balance. At that time, Fresno State and UC Davis were the only 2 Universities with a bonded winery and Enology programs. I enrolled in Wine 101 and quickly became a wine nerd in my spare time. In 2013, I stepped away from coaching to focus on my family. I still didn’t have any real intention of working in the wine industry, but I continued to learn and enjoy wine. In 2015, we moved to Bend, Oregon to be near family. Va Piano Vineyards out of Walla Walla, Washington was set to open a new tasting room in Bend early that summer. It’s crazy how sometimes things work out. Seven years after I had come up with my plan B, it was now a reality. I worked my way up through the winery and they helped me begin the sommelier certification process with WSET. In 2020, we moved to Arizona and reconnected with friends from Fresno who moved here after selling their restaurant in California. Wine is what brought us together years ago. We started this business because wine is something we are passionate about and we wanted to introduce Arizona to many of the lesser known but just as incredible, hard to find wines that we’ve discovered

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Starting a business is not for the faint of heart. Without faith, family and friends I’m not sure I would’ve been able to successfully navigate some of the unforeseen challenges. It takes a lot of support to push through the dark days of doubt. We launched our business as Arizona was heading into the hottest months and many people were heading out of town. We’ve made some adjustments and are putting a great team together that will set us up for success. We take pride in providing exceptional service for our accounts and building great relationships with them. We believe so much in each other, our business and the incredible wineries that we’ve partnered with and can’t wait to see where our business is 5, 10, 15 years from now.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We work with so many amazing accounts (restaurants, country clubs, retail stores and bars) there’s no way I could narrow it down to a few. We’re lucky to live in a place that offers such a great variety of fun and entertainment from your honky-tonks to some incredible fine dining and beyond!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am who I am today because of my parents. They taught us so much about living to the highest standards. When I think of my dad I always think of integrity. He did things the right way in business, on the golf course and at home. He and my mom were a power team. My dad worked long hours to provide for our family and my mom ran the house. She is caring, kind and always supportive. I strive to be a balance of all the great qualities they instilled in us. My husband has been my rock from the start. My sister and her husband also have a business here in Scottsdale and we love spending time together and bouncing ideas off of each other. My family means everything to me.
