We had the good fortune of connecting with Khristena Figgins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Khristena, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
One thing outsiders may not be aware of is how deeply we stand behind our core values in the grooming industry. It’s not just about the grooming itself; it’s about embodying qualities like patience, excellent customer service, and teamwork. We prioritize transparency with our clients, building a sense of community, and most importantly, showing genuine love for animals. We aim to please, operating with integrity and a commitment to high-quality care. As a local business, we take pride in staying connected to our community and always striving to provide the best for both pets and their owners.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
More about my career? Well, I pride myself on being a team player and taking a hands-on approach with all of my shops. I believe in being present, ensuring I’m there to guide and support my team, encouraging them to reach new heights. One of the things I’m most proud of is witnessing the growth of our team members. It’s incredibly fulfilling to see admins or bathers develop their skills and transition into groomers.

My journey to where I am today wasn’t easy, nor was it an overnight success. It took time, patience, and a lot of determination. I’ve been fortunate to have the leadership and guidance of Liz Illg, as well as the lessons I’ve learned from previous work experiences. I’ve always strived to go above and beyond, working to be better each day. Along the way, I’ve learned valuable lessons about being strong-willed, motivated, and a team player who isn’t afraid to roll up their sleeves.

What sets Puff and Fluff apart is our unwavering commitment to our core values and outstanding customer service. We want every client to feel welcomed the moment they walk in and to leave not only happy but with their pets well-cared for. Beyond that, we’re passionate about keeping our business local—supporting fellow small businesses and giving back to the community that has supported us over the years.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to Liz Illg, the Owner of Puff and Fluff Spa. From my very first day working with Liz, she took me under her wing and taught me how to thrive in this industry. Not only did she guide me toward professional success, but she also helped me develop and refine my leadership skills. I also owe a huge thanks to my family for their unwavering support throughout this journey. Without their encouragement and belief in me, I wouldn’t be where I am today in my career.
