We had the good fortune of connecting with Lexie Durick and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lexie, why did you pursue a creative career?
I’ve been creating art my whole life. It has always been a forefront passion and outlet for my creativity. I enjoy being able to hone a skill that I’ve been working on since school. My art is a representation of my creativity and interest in trying different forms of art. It isn’t always that you get to have others enjoy something that makes you happy and brings you joy. That is definitely one of the best parts is seeing someone’s face when they receive a personal piece. I hope to reach more people and grow to be a the best artist I can be.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have such a wide variety in what I do, but I also have been trying to hone in on certain art that I enjoy the most. I focus on architecture, buildings, houses, landscaping. I love to do custom commissions of houses, first time homebuyers or just a brand new house a family is excited about. Creating custom pieces are my favorite as I know the client is just as excited as I am to see how it turns out. I have also been inspired by my recent move to Arizona by creating art related to the desert landscape.

Where I got today? I kind of stumbled into selling my art. It is a hard market to break into, especially since just moving to Arizona this past July. I am still finding my way and trying to make a name for myself as an up and coming artist. I am doing some booths in the area at markets and selling online. It is still a bit of time before I get where I want to be, but for now I am making art for my happiness, and hoping others will soon follow.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is to keep going. Art block is real. Self doubt is real. Not picking up the paintbrush for months happens. Art is a skill that needs to be maintained and cultivated. So by doing something even when you want to do nothing is important. That way the next time you decide to do something big you will surprise yourself with the outcome.

I hope people see my art as a representation of me. When you receive a custom canvas, digital work, or print, you also are receiving a very raw, personal version of my love of the craft.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Honestly, this is great, because I am planning an amazing visit when my best friend Sinclair comes.

I am based in Chandler so the Chandler Fashion Center mall is absolutely one of the first stops. I think it’s bustling, has variety, and alive! I have lived in very small towns with dead or no malls. This is a treat to live somewhere where everything is going on.

We both have a love of boba, so I will definitely be bringing her to Happy Lemon, top tier boba over there, also the Dog Haus Biergarten, the sliders are just really good.

Then, whatever event I can find that’s happening in the area, either a market, comedian, singer. There is always an event to go to in downtown Phoenix.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Definitely my parents. It may be cheesy to say but they have always encouraged me to continue my art. Sometimes art is weird, and doesn’t make sense, but they get it. I’ve appreciated their support and push to keep going, while also being practical about the future.

I also have to say all of my art teachers along the way that taught me the foundations of art. Ms. Sload, Ms. Gosnell and Dr. Komando to name a few. They helped to foster my love of art and installed a sense of perseverance surrounding it that sticks with me to this day.
