We had the good fortune of connecting with Drai$ and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Drai$, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued an artistic career because ever since I can remember as a kid, I’ve always held a special way of expressing myself through writing. Add that to my family introducing me to all sides of the music world, it just grew into a talent with my already existing love for words that I now use to create my own music. And I can remember even when I was playing sports as a kid and thought all I wanted to do is be an athlete. I spent a lot of time busy with school and practice, but I always spent most of my off time drawing/writing or listening to songs repetitively all day so I could learn the lyrics as fast as possible.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I create art for the pure love of creating. Whether im drawing out ideas, taking pictures or working on beats and lyrics I take pride in everything I create. Most people might confuse that just because you’re a musician that the only thing you create is music, but it most cases that is not true. Being an artist comes with the love of just create art no matter what the form may be. And the tough truth is that in order to make it as an artist you truly do need to overcome challenges and hard times in your life. Not everything is handed out and you will definitely be tested along this road but I guarantee that if you believe in yourself and you do make it. It is all worth it. And thats one of the main things I would like people to get from my music, is the fact that it doesn’t matter what people say or think, just do it for you and be proud of every step you take. In the end the only thing setting your limitations is your own mindset

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would probably recommend checking out most of the popular food spots/bars in the downtown area. Ive had a lot of great meals and experiences with live music. To name one or two particular locations I’d day Diablo Rooftop or Floor 13

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to shoutout one of my best friends who started out with me and this music dream since the day it started. My boy Brian McCarty also known as CRTY has been rapping with me since we were freestyling for fun in high school. And now not only does he feature on songs with me but he produces a lot of beats and masters/records most of my songs with me. So huge shoutout to my bro because we wouldn’t be doing what we’re doing without the teamwork and grind on both ends and he definitely deserves a shoutout. You can catch him out in the Phoenix night life performing with his band “Rio Grande” or out working/performing with me
