We had the good fortune of connecting with Aidee Valenzuela and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aidee, what are you inspired by?
I am inspired by the preserverance of my community.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My recipes are created with the intent of preserving my ancestral Indigenous culture through our original foods. I am grateful to reintroduce foods that were once staples in our diets and using only natural ingredients. I’m excited to expand beyond beverages into food.

The greatest challenge has been obtaining the proper licensing to sell at public events and I hope that through my experience I can help others.

The message I’d like to convey through my brand is that , like our foods, we are resilient, we are reconnecting to our ancestral roots and we can do that through our nourishment.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I may take my friend to the view of Phoenix at South Mountain or up North. We could stay in town and take nature walks along the many trails within the city. Maybe a trip to the Grand Canyon, Bisbee or a small town like Williams.

We could check out the art scene in downtown Phoenix or a cultural festival. Weekend farmers markets to support small local businesses.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shout out to Shauny Bennet, owner of Salt Sugar Taqueria. She gave me my first opportunity to sell my aguas at a pop-up she organized. It was then that I knew I wanted to continue on this path.
