We had the good fortune of connecting with Agustin Vargas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Agustin, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Because since I was little I had the ability to draw and my imagination helped me create small projects, later when I decided to study architecture, I discovered the world of professional art.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
First of all, I never thought of becoming a full-time professional artist, as my professional training was as an architect, graduating with a degree from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). I believe there are no easy paths, as we all face challenges along the way. It’s part of the learning process, with skill and intelligence, to overcome obstacles.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
What I regularly do if I have someone visiting is take them to see nature: Sedona, the Grand Canyon, Prescott with its interesting lakes, and Payson to watch the sunset. I’ll find places to eat, places to drink… Anywhere interesting, I don’t pay much attention to that; the important thing is to create a special moment wherever it is.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Of course, to my father, Agustin Vargas Villa, who encouraged me from a young age to engage in activities related to drawing and other activities that shaped the individual I am today. And to each of the women who have played a role in my life.
