We had the good fortune of connecting with Nikki Metzger and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nikki, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process behind starting BODI came from a mix of passion and purpose. We knew fitness was more than just working out — it was about creating a space where people could push themselves, feel supported, and build real confidence that carried into every area of their lives. We wanted to build something that reflected our values, not just join another franchise or follow someone else’s formula. By starting our own business, we had the freedom to create a community-driven gym that focused on quality training, a strong culture, and an atmosphere where everyone feels welcomed. It wasn’t just about opening a fitness studio, it was about creating an environment that inspired people to become the best version of themselves, both physically and mentally.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
For nearly 20 years I’ve been in the fitness industry, but the most defining part of my career has been owning BODI for the past 12 years. Running a business has brought incredible highs and some tough challenges — from navigating a global pandemic to adapting with market shifts and changes in the industry. Through it all, I’ve learned the importance of evolving, staying resilient, and keeping our community at the heart of every decision.

What sets me apart is the range of experiences I bring — from traveling the world as a Nike Master Trainer to coaching on Tonal, I’ve had the privilege of working with everyday people, professional athletes, and even Olympians. But nothing compares to seeing the impact right here at BODI — watching our team and community grow, and seeing people become stronger, more confident versions of themselves. That’s what I’m most proud of, and what I want people to know: BODI isn’t just a gym, it’s a community built on passion, perseverance, and the belief that together we can accomplish amazing things.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting Scottsdale for a week, I’d want them to experience everything that makes this city so special. We’d kick things off with a high-energy workout and recovery session at BODI — because nothing sets the tone like sweating it out with our community. From there, it’d be a mix of adventure and relaxation: a Camelback hike if the weather’s nice, a pool and spa day to recharge, and maybe some pickleball or golf just for fun.

When it comes to food and drinks, Scottsdale truly delivers. I’d kick things off with a vibey dinner at The Ends or Kabuboi inside the new Remi Hotel, then keep the night going with cocktails at Bar Bambino. Or if we’re craving Mexican, Toca Madera always hits, or for seafood, Buck & Rider is the spot. A gorgeous evening at the Global Ambassador is never a bad idea, and of course, wine and good times at Wine Girl is a must. If the timing’s right, we could catch a Suns game and hit up a downtown speakeasy after. It’s the perfect blend of fitness, food, fun, and nightlife — exactly why Scottsdale feels like home to me.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We would love to give credit to our amazing team. From our incredible coaches who bring energy and expertise to every class, to our front desk staff who make everyone feel welcomed the moment they walk through the door — they truly are the heartbeat of BODI. And of course, our amazing community of members who continue to show up, support one another, and believe in what we’re building. Over the years, we’ve realized that while we aim to push and inspire our members and our team, they are the ones who end up pushing and inspiring us. When you come together as a team and a community, you can accomplish truly amazing things. BODI simply wouldn’t be what it is today without the passion, hard work, and support of the community and team around us.
