We had the good fortune of connecting with Tara Sullivan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tara, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The decision to start my own business was driven by several factors. First, I wanted to provide patients with truly high-quality care without being restricted by insurance companies dictating what treatments I could or could not offer. Second, after 12 years working at HonorHealth and other side jobs, I was ready for the freedom to set my own schedule, without needing to ask permission to attend my son’s school events or take a vacation.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I first learned about pelvic floor therapy while going through my own struggles with pelvic pain during grad school, and that’s when I knew I had to specialize in pelvic health.
Today, I’m a pelvic health physical therapist, educator, and co-owner of Mind to Body Healing (M2B) and PelviEd. My career has been shaped by my passion for helping people reclaim their quality of life in some of the most vulnerable areas—bowel, bladder, sexual dysfunctions, and pelvic pain.
What sets me apart is my willingness to dive into areas of healthcare that are often overlooked, misunderstood, or considered “taboo.” I am most proud of building a business and a nonprofit that prioritize both patient care and professional education. We don’t just treat symptoms; we create space for healing, education, and empowerment. Our slogan is Healing begins with Hope and that’s what we want our patients to feel when they meet us. Watching patients improve their quality of life and seeing young clinicians grow into confident providers are equally exciting milestones for me.
The path was definitely not easy. I graduated with my Doctorate in Physical Therapy and stepped straight into a pelvic health position at HonorHealth with no prior experience and no mentor to guide me. At that time, many physicians and patients had never even heard of pelvic floor therapy. I found myself not only building a name for myself but also building a pelvic health program. The learning curve was steep, I was learning alongside my patients and the doctors who were beginning to refer to me. Those early challenges pushed me to grow quickly, adapt constantly, and lay the groundwork for the career I have today, and is why I am most passionate about mentoring other providers.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that the more you know, the more you realize how much you don’t know. I consider myself a lifelong learner. Even after leading in this field for over a decade, I continue to push myself to grow, seeking out new knowledge and better ways to care for my patients and mentor future providers. Most recently, I graduated from the University of Michigan’s Sexual Counseling program because I recognized a significant gap in care for pelvic health patients. Expanding my education in this way allows me to better serve patients while also strengthening the foundation of what I can teach my mentees.
I want the world to know that pelvic health care is not a luxury, it’s a necessity. At Mind to Body Healing, we’re proving that patients deserve compassionate, individualized care. Through PelviEd, we’re showing that mentorship and education can change the trajectory of an entire field. My story is one of turning personal challenges into professional passion, and my brand represents the belief that healing happens when we address the whole person—mind and body. On a personal level, what I want the world to know about me is that passion can make anything possible. As the sole parent to my 11-year-old son, my drive comes not just from my own goals, but from showing him that women—and anyone—can overcome challenges and still achieve their dreams. Being an entrepreneur is challenging but I’ve never been happier.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my best friend comes to visit, we slip right back into our 18-year tradition—starting with as many Pure Barre classes as we can squeeze in. We always make time to hike Piestewa Peak, then balance it out with plenty of poolside lounging at whatever staycation spot is calling our name. Since we both have kids now, the itinerary usually includes any waterpark or jumping place that wears them out. We love having dinner and drinks at True Food, Bisutoro, and The Mercer. And, of course, we have to get facials at Skintimate!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout goes to my incredible business partner and co-owner, Dr. Kylee Austin. Without her, I’d probably still be juggling multiple jobs while trying to get our clinic off the ground. From the very beginning, she had the vision and confidence that we could make this business thrive. She saw my dream, believed in it, and made it a reality by joining me just three weeks after I opened the doors.
