Meet Christopher Polcyn | Hairdresser/Educator/Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Christopher Polcyn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christopher, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I knew that I could create more opportunities working for myself. The hair industry is very dynamic. Working behind a chair in a salon is rewarding and pays the bills, but there are so many more opportunities beyond the salon. Teaching my craft to others is something I’m very passionate about. Collaborating with other creatives is also very important.
Launching Cut Collective gave me a platform to pursue these other interests.
My world has changed since.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Cut Collective is my brand. I share a studio with my salon partner Danielle Ozols, in Phoenix. That is where we take clients. Since relocating to Phoenix from Scottsdale, the opportunities to work outside of the salon keep coming. I just wrapped a major brand photo shoot, and have several local photographers that I’m
working with on creative projects. I’m also developing an education/mentoring program for upcoming hairdressers.
Cut Collective is more than a salon where I do hair. It’s a platform to teach and create.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Phoenix is an incredible city. So many places that are truly unique.
Valentine is one of our favorites for brunch. Sunny’s Lounge for craft cocktails in a laid back space. If my friend Michael Hooker is hosting an event with his label RE:Sound, it can’t be missed at either Melinda’s Alley or Canopy rooftop in Tempe. Incredible music and community.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Cut Collective is an amalgamation of 34 years in the hair industry. I’ve been blessed to train and work with some of the best in the industry from the start. I’ve had incredible support from my girlfriend and business partner Andrea Isfan. She has over 10 years of salon and spa management experience bringing the business mind. Plus her pulse on the social media world has brought Cut Collective exposure to a much wider audience. I could not have done this without her help.
