We had the good fortune of connecting with Sonny Shaw and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sonny, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
For me, it started with wanting to create something that could support my family while also keeping the true spirit of Western culture alive in Old Town. Western tradition is a big part of what makes this community special, and I want to make sure that authenticity never disappears.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
It definitely hasn’t been easy. It’s taken a lot of hard work, long hours, and real dedication. This business has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I’m proud of the name, the culture, and what Mavericks represents: real Western heritage and the history of America.

We’ve overcome challenges by staying true to who we are and never shying away from putting in the work. Mavericks stands out because of its authenticity and the genuine Western spirit behind everything we do. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that when you believe in what you’re building, it shows.

We want the world to know that Mavericks of Scottsdale isn’t just a store it’s a family. We welcome everyone who loves the spirit of Western culture to be part of that family.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you’re visiting Scottsdale, I’d definitely recommend checking out the Museum of the West it really captures the true Western spirit and history that inspire us. For something more modern, Fashion Square Mall is a great stop too. It’s stylish, fashion-forward, and a nice contrast to the Old Town Western vibe.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout has to go to my family. Mavericks started as a small family business in Santa Fe, and it’s stayed that way ever since. Their hard work, support, and love are the reason we’ve been able to grow and keep our Western roots strong.
