Meet Sara Martinez | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sara Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sara, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Honestly, starting my art business came from this deep need to share more than just drawings — I wanted to share emotion and connection. Art has always been how I express what words can’t. After going through vision surgeries and having to relearn how to see and draw again, I realized how much I wanted to make my art mean something. Starting my business gave me the freedom to grow as an artist and to create portraits that carry real heart and soul. It’s about connecting with people, inspiring them, and showing that no matter what challenges you face, you can still turn your passion into something powerful.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art has always been about connection — capturing emotion and telling a story through each portrait. I love drawing people in a way that feels alive, like you can see their spirit in their eyes. What really sets my work apart is the journey behind it. After my vision surgeries, I had to relearn how to see and draw again. That experience changed everything — it made me slow down, notice details differently, and put even more heart into what I create.
It definitely wasn’t easy. There were moments when I honestly thought I might not draw again. But I kept pushing myself to try, to experiment, and to remember why I started in the first place. I learned that art isn’t about perfection — it’s about persistence, passion, and staying true to yourself.
What I want people to know about me and my art is that every portrait has a piece of my story in it. It’s about resilience, love, and hope — and my biggest goal is for someone to look at my work and feel something real, something that reminds them they’re not alone.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend came to Phoenix, I’d want them to experience the best of everything — the sunrise at Papago Park, breakfast at Snooze, and the creative vibe of Roosevelt Row. We’d explore the Phoenix Art Museum, grab dinner and live music at Culinary Dropout, and end one night watching the sunset from Dobbins Lookout. I’d finish the week with something chill — maybe a spa day or pool time in Scottsdale. Phoenix has this perfect balance of energy and peace, and I’d want them to feel that mix of art, sunshine, and good memories.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am filled with immense gratitude for the wonderful individuals who have journeyed alongside me in my expiration of expressing myself through my art.
To my beloved sons, Alexander, and and Angelus for your unwavering support and willingness to learn with me. Our countless hours spent crafting and creating and bonding created pure inspiration..
With a heart full of gratitude, I acknowledge my dear sister Connie your support meant the world to me, encouraging me, and I thought I would never get it right reminding me that my heart cannot be wrong and to my fellow artists who have challenged me and collaborated with me over the years thank you for making this journey so extraordinary
