Meet Tommy Musto

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tommy Musto and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tommy, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
There were a few times in my life where I have worked for someone else but I always felt that I wanted to call the shots. Set the direction, make a plan and go for it. I like being in control of my own destiny.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My music career began very modestly, as a DJ. I progressed by doing editing and then became a mix show DJ for a NY Radio station called WKTU. From that I started doing remixing and production. Silvio Tancredi and I had a production company, recording studio and manufactured vinyl records and CD’s for a group of independent dance labels that had many international successes. The pinnacle was to eventually remix artists like Michael Jackson and Gloria Estefan, to name a few. I’m simplifying the journey that was of course very difficult. Anything in the entertainment business is difficult.
As far as my career in finance. It took years to build a business to sustain myself. Finance was even more difficult than the music business but hard work and perseverance paid off. I manage over 100 million dollars of about 350 families. My work is very gratifying to help people achieve their goals.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I currently live on Long Island, NY and there are many things to do here. If it was the summer at the time I would definitely go by the water. There is plenty to do and see out here. I’m also 40 minutes from NYC. There the world is at your disposal.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My music career which began professionally in 1983, started with the opportunity given to me by Silvio Tancredi of Northcott Productions, Ltd. (RIP). I did some work for him but he gave me the chance to become a partner in the production company in 1986. It continued until we closed that business in 2002.
In 2002 I started my wealth management career. I would have to give that initial credit to my friend Barry. He actually worked with Silvio and I in the music business and then left for finance in the late 90’s. Once I decided to make a life change he introduced me to a friend who new someone at Morgan Stanley, were I started in 2002.
