Meet Kristie Martin | Assisted Living Home Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristie Martin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kristie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting our own assisted living home was something that came from both the heart and a desire to serve our community in a meaningful way. As a family, we have always been compassionate people who genuinely enjoy helping others, especially seniors and individuals who need daily support, care, and companionship. Over time, we realized that caring for people is not just something we do — it is something we are truly passionate about.
When we looked around the Laveen area, we noticed there was a growing need for more quality assisted living homes that provide not only professional care, but also a warm, family-like environment where residents feel respected, comfortable, and valued. Many families want their loved ones to be in a place that feels like home rather than an institution, and we felt called to create that kind of atmosphere.
Our thought process behind starting this business was centered on making a positive difference in people’s lives. We wanted to build a home where residents receive compassionate care, personal attention, dignity, and emotional support every day. We believe that seniors deserve to age in a safe and loving environment where they are treated like family.
Opening this assisted living home also gave us the opportunity to combine our family values with a purpose-driven business. We saw not only a need in the community, but also an opportunity to use our compassion, patience, and dedication to serve others in a way that truly matters. Knowing that we can provide peace of mind to families while improving the quality of life for residents is what continues to motivate and inspire us every day.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My career journey has been deeply rooted in service, compassion, and family values. What sets us apart in the assisted living industry is that this is much more than just a business to us — it is personal. Our passion for caring for others comes from real-life experience caring for our own loved ones. Before opening our home, our family cared for each of our grandparents throughout their later years and during hospice care. Those experiences gave us a deep understanding of the importance of dignity, patience, emotional support, and creating a true sense of home for seniors.
Professionally, we got to where we are today by following our hearts and recognizing a real need in the Laveen community for compassionate, high-quality assisted living care in a family-oriented environment. We wanted to create a place where residents are not treated like numbers, but like family. That vision became the foundation of our business and continues to guide everything we do.
The journey definitely was not easy. Starting an assisted living home comes with many challenges — from navigating licensing and regulations to building trust within the community and balancing the emotional responsibility that comes with caring for people’s loved ones. There were moments of uncertainty, long hours, and sacrifices along the way, but we stayed motivated because we knew our purpose was bigger than ourselves. We overcame challenges by leaning on each other as a family, staying committed to our mission, and remembering why we started in the first place.
One of the biggest lessons we’ve learned is that compassion and genuine care make all the difference. Skills and experience are important, but people can truly feel when they are cared for with love and sincerity. We’ve also learned the importance of patience, adaptability, and treating every resident with the same respect and kindness we would want for our own family members.
What we want the world to know about us and our brand is that we lead with heart. Our assisted living home was built on love, personal experience, and a sincere desire to make a difference in people’s lives. We are proud to provide a safe, supportive, and family-centered environment where residents can feel comfortable, valued, and cared for every single day. At the end of the day, our greatest accomplishment is knowing that we are able to bring comfort, peace of mind, and quality care to both our residents and their families.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Day 1 – Welcome to Phoenix & Laveen
I’d start by showing them around Laveen and the South Mountain area because it’s home for us and has some of the best desert views in the Valley. We’d grab authentic Mexican food from a local favorite like Comedor Guadalajara or tacos from one of the many amazing local taco shops around Phoenix. In the evening, we’d catch the sunset at South Mountain Park and Preserve because the mountain views overlooking the city are incredible.
Day 2 – Scottsdale Day & Nightlife
We’d spend the day in Scottsdale exploring Old Town, checking out local boutiques, rooftop spots, and art galleries. Lunch would definitely be at The Mission or Olive & Ivy. At night, Scottsdale has some of the best nightlife in Arizona, so we’d go out for music, drinks, and a fun atmosphere.
Day 3 – Sedona Adventure
A trip to Arizona isn’t complete without visiting Sedona. We’d spend the day hiking, taking in the red rocks, and exploring places like Cathedral Rock and Bell Rock. Sedona has such peaceful energy and some of the most beautiful scenery in the country. Dinner with a sunset view there is unforgettable.
Day 4 – Grand Canyon Road Trip
Of course, we’d have to visit Grand Canyon National Park. Even people who have seen pictures their whole lives are blown away in person. We’d make a full road trip out of it, stopping at scenic viewpoints and taking in Arizona’s natural beauty along the way.
Day 5 – Lake Day & Relaxing
Arizona surprises people because we actually have beautiful lakes. We’d spend a relaxing day at Lake Pleasant Regional Park or Saguaro Lake boating, jet skiing, or just enjoying the weather.
Day 6 – Sports & Downtown Phoenix
Depending on the season, we’d catch an Arizona sports game because Phoenix sports culture is always exciting — whether it’s the Phoenix Suns, Arizona Diamondbacks, or Arizona Cardinals. Then we’d explore Downtown Phoenix for great food, live music, and local lounges.
Day 7 – Food & Hidden Gems
The last day would be all about Arizona food spots and hidden gems. Arizona has an underrated food scene with incredible Mexican food, steakhouses, and brunch spots. We’d probably finish the trip with brunch and one more desert sunset because honestly, Arizona sunsets never get old.
What makes Arizona special to me is the combination of natural beauty, culture, and community. You can go from city life to mountains, lakes, hiking trails, or small towns all within a few hours. The people are welcoming, the scenery is unforgettable, and there’s always something new to experience. Arizona really has a little bit of everything.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would dedicate this shoutout to my parents and to the hospice professionals who helped care for our loved ones during some of the most important and emotional moments of our lives. Before opening our assisted living home, our family personally cared for each of our grandparents and my mother-in-law as they aged and eventually transitioned toward the end of life. Those experiences shaped us deeply and taught us the true meaning of patience, compassion, dignity, and unconditional care.
Being hands-on caregivers for our grandparents gave us a firsthand understanding of the emotional and physical challenges families face when caring for aging loved ones. It also showed us how important it is for seniors to feel safe, respected, comfortable, and surrounded by people who genuinely care about them. Those moments became a major part of the inspiration behind opening our assisted living home.
We also want to recognize the hospice teams who supported our family throughout those journeys. The nurses, caregivers, counselors, and staff members we encountered were instrumental in helping us navigate difficult times with compassion and grace. They not only cared for our grandparents, but also supported our entire family emotionally and spiritually. Watching the level of kindness and dignity they brought into people’s lives left a lasting impact on us and reinforced our desire to dedicate ourselves to serving others in the same way.
Our story and our business were built on love, family, and the example set by the incredible people who helped care for our loved ones. They deserve so much credit for inspiring us to create a home where residents are treated with the same compassion, respect, and heartfelt care that meant so much to our own family.
