Meet Mandy Pascua | Director of Marketing and Community Relations

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mandy Pascua and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mandy, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success has been perseverance and a commitment to continuous growth. As a first-generation college graduate, I didn’t have a roadmap for higher education or a career in leadership. I learned early on that if I wanted to create opportunities, I would need to be willing to work hard, keep learning, and push through challenges.
While raising a family and balancing the responsibilities of being a wife, mother, and full-time professional, I earned both my MBA and a master’s degree in marketing. Today, I am continuing that journey by pursuing my doctoral degree. Those experiences taught me that success is rarely about talent alone—it’s about showing up consistently, staying focused on your goals, and refusing to give up when things get difficult.
Professionally, I’ve found that success is also rooted in relationships. Whether I’m working with families, students, staff, or community partners, I believe the strongest brands and organizations are built on trust, authenticity, and service. By combining a commitment to lifelong learning with a genuine desire to help others succeed, I’ve been able to build a career that I’m incredibly proud of while also setting an example for my daughter that anything is possible with determination and hard work.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My career has been anything but traditional, and that’s one of the things I’m most proud of. As a first-generation college graduate, I didn’t grow up with a roadmap for higher education or executive leadership. What I did have was a strong work ethic, determination, and a belief that education could create opportunities not only for me, but for my family.
Over the years, I’ve built my career across both the private and public sectors, leading marketing, communications, sales, enrollment, and community engagement initiatives. Today, I serve as the Director of Marketing and Community Relations for J.O. Combs Unified School District, where I have the opportunity to tell the stories of students, staff, and families while helping strengthen connections between schools and the community. I love being able to combine strategy, creativity, and purpose in a role that directly impacts children’s lives.
What sets me apart is that I never stop learning. While working full-time and raising a family, I earned both my MBA and a master’s degree in marketing. I’m currently pursuing my doctoral degree because I believe growth should never stop. Throughout my career, I’ve often been the person willing to take on the challenge others thought was too difficult, learn a new skill, or find a creative solution when resources were limited.
The journey hasn’t always been easy. Like many working parents, I’ve balanced career responsibilities, family life, school, and personal challenges all at the same time. There were plenty of late nights, early mornings, and moments of self-doubt. What helped me overcome those challenges was focusing on progress rather than perfection and remembering why I started in the first place.
One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned is that success isn’t about titles or accolades—it’s about impact. While I’m honored to have received national recognition for my work in communications, what matters most to me is knowing that my work has helped tell someone’s story, strengthened a community, or created opportunities for others.
If there’s one thing I want people to know about my story, it’s that where you start does not determine where you finish. You don’t need a perfect path or all the answers. With hard work, resilience, a willingness to learn, and people who believe in you, it’s possible to achieve goals you once thought were out of reach. I hope my journey shows others—especially women, working parents, and first-generation students—that they can pursue their ambitions without giving up the things that matter most.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend came to Arizona for a week, I would want them to experience the perfect mix of adventure, local culture, amazing food, and the beauty of the desert.
Day 1: Welcome to Arizona
We’d start with breakfast at Joe’s Farm Grill in Gilbert, then spend the afternoon exploring Downtown Gilbert and the Heritage District. Dinner would be at Liberty Market, followed by drinks and live music nearby.
Day 2: Salt River Adventure
One of my favorite Arizona experiences is floating or kayaking the Salt River. We’d spend the morning on the river looking for wild horses and enjoying the scenery. Afterward, we’d grab dinner at The Hidden House in Chandler and relax on a patio as the sun sets.
Day 3: Scottsdale & Desert Views
We’d head to Old Town Scottsdale for shopping, local art galleries, and lunch. In the evening, we’d visit the Desert Botanical Garden and finish the night with dinner and rooftop views overlooking the city.
Day 4: Sedona Day Trip
No Arizona itinerary is complete without Sedona. We’d spend the day hiking among the red rocks, visiting local shops, and soaking in the incredible scenery. The drive alone is worth the trip.
Day 5: Superstition Mountains
We’d explore Lost Dutchman State Park and the Superstition Mountains, one of Arizona’s most iconic landscapes. I’d pack plenty of water, snacks, and a camera because the views are unforgettable.
Day 6: Local Favorites
Back in the East Valley, we’d spend the day exploring Queen Creek and San Tan Valley. We’d visit local businesses, grab coffee, and enjoy the small-town feel that makes this community special. Dinner would be somewhere with great outdoor seating so we could enjoy another Arizona sunset.
Day 7: Relax and Reflect
The final day would be all about slowing down. We’d enjoy brunch, do a little shopping, and spend time talking about everything we experienced throughout the week before sending them home with a deeper appreciation for Arizona.
What I love most about Arizona is the variety. In one week, you can experience desert landscapes, mountain trails, rivers, vibrant cities, small-town charm, incredible sunsets, and some of the friendliest people you’ll meet. It’s a place where adventure and community coexist, and that’s what keeps me proud to call it home.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My biggest shoutout goes to my husband, Ray owner of Elevatve Geo 3D, and daughter. Pursuing multiple degrees, building a career, and now working toward a doctoral degree would not have been possible without their love, patience, and support. There were many nights spent studying after work, weekends dedicated to assignments, and moments when they made sacrifices so I could continue pursuing my goals. Their belief in me has been one of my greatest sources of motivation.
I would also like to recognize my parents. While neither had the opportunity to attend college, they instilled in me the values of hard work, resilience, and perseverance. As a first-generation college graduate, I carry those lessons with me every day. Their sacrifices created opportunities they never had themselves, and I am grateful for the foundation they provided.
Finally, I want to acknowledge the mentors, colleagues, and educators who have encouraged me throughout my journey. Every opportunity, challenge, and lesson helped shape who I am today. Success is never achieved alone, and I am grateful for the people who believed in me, challenged me to grow, and reminded me to keep moving forward.
