We had the good fortune of connecting with Grant Botma and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Grant, how does your business help the community or world?
Finances are a huge deal when it comes to relationships. The number one cause of divorce is money fights and there are countless number of dual income households or parents that don’t have relationship with their children that they want, because they’re required to work too much. Money is a big deal and it can impact relationships in a positive and negative way. Stewardship offers home loans, insurance and investments with wisdom and love. We handle the finances for people. so they can focus on what matters most. The things that they can control and work on, which is their relationships, their spouse, their children, their Church, their philanthropic endeavors, and their career. These type of things can in turn, help them make a huge impact on their community.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Getting to where I am now, wasn’t easy. It takes a lot of work and you do have to put in time, energy and effort when other people aren’t willing to. More importantly, there are various stages throughout growing a business that you have to become a different person. I had to learn how to become a leader and learn to let go of certain areas of my business and teach others how to do that. I had to learn to trust other people to do business. It may not be exactly the way i would do it, but they would follow my exact framework, and would live out serving the customer in a way thats uniquely them. Going through that process and continually transitioning into a different type of leader, and figuring out what my team needs and how they need it so that we can best serve our community is challenging. It’s also extremely challenging to continually study society and see what people want, why they want it, how they act and why they act, and how they respond and why they respond. It’s very hard to stay on top of this always moving target that is moving at a very quick pace. We are constantly making changes to our business, so that we are genuinely customer centric, and this can be extremely challenging. The lesson I’ve learned along the way, is that as long as your heart is in the right place and that you’re genuinely trying to serve other people and make a positive impact in others lives, then it is so enjoyable and is a ton of fun. It’s way worth it.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
It’s going to start with some really good coffee in the morning. We’d go to Provision Coffee in Arcadia and have an awesome time drinking extremely tasty coffee that is fresh, roasted locally and is artiscianaly crafted. After that we would go play a round of golf at one of the many amazing golf courses here in Arizona. If I had to choose a golf course, it would be the Phoenician Golf Resort. It’s a great course and it’s fun and we would be able to enjoy the Arizona weather and one of Arizona’s sports. Next we would head to Pizzaria Bianco for lunch and have the best pizza in the Country. Yes you hear that right! It’s not in Chicago, it’s not in New York… it’s right here in Phoenix. After we ate lunch, we would head down to the East Valley and volunteer at Midwest Food Bank. There are so many great philanthropic entities in Arizona that are doing great things for the community, but Midwest Food Bank does an excellent job of always finding a way to allow people to serve no matter who you are, no matter what your age is or what your ability is- they will find a way for you to serve! It’s a fun thing to be able to serve our community and serve others, which is why we would go to Midwest Food Bank and serve together. Then after we are finished serving at Midwest Food Bank for a few hours and sharing the blessings of food to other people who are hungry, we would go to Downtown Gilbert in the evening. Downtown Gilbert in the evening, is one of the underrated things in Arizona and an absolute favorite of mine. It’s extremely family friendly, yet it’s lively. So if you wanted to have a good time with loud music and drinking and dancing, they have it. Or if you just want to be calmed and relaxed and have a nice evening alone with the spouse, you could do that. You could also find many family friendly restaurants which are some of the tastiest places to eat. Just walking up and down Downtown Gilbert at night is a wonderful experience, so we would taste test a whole bunch of food tasting and fill our bellies with amazing food… and taking in all there is in Downtown Gilbert. We would end the night with a selfie in front of the Gilbert water tower!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My team. All of my employees: anyone who has ever been a part of Stewardship as an employee, who is currently a part of Stewardship as an employee, and for those who I don’t know: the future employees of Stewardship. This team is unbelievable. What we do, makes a real impact on the world. We are making a positive impact on peoples lives and peoples lives are better because of what we do. We love people through finances and thats really hard to do because it requires selflessness. The best acts of love also require a sacrifice and my team sacrifices every day when they love people through finances. They say no to these extra commissions that come in because they aren’t selling people a product just for a commission. Instead they are genuinely putting themselves in the customers shoes and giving them the best option, and that deserves a huge shoutout. My success is nothing without my team. I could have never done any of this on my own and I totally know and recognize that without my team, I wouldn’t be able to have the success Stewardship is having and the impact we are making in peoples lives.
