We had the good fortune of connecting with Cheryl Sosnowski and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cheryl, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
The ONE habit that I know has helped me succeed is the habit of awareness – mindfulness. Having practiced mindfulness for many years now, it has become a way I AM in the world instead of something I practice…most of the time! In staying in the present moment, I can make choices in the moment that lead me toward my goals. Most people think that it’s the big choices that have the greatest impact on their lives, but really it’s the hundreds of small choices you make when you are all alone with no one watching you that have the greatest impact on your life – your health, your mental wellbeing, your integrity, and definitely your business. Staying present has cultivated the wise use of time and the ability to respond instead of re-act out of mindless, bad habits!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I come from a corporate background, and studied mindfulness to manage my own stress. It changed my life so much, I studied it professionally and got my certification through UCLA’s MARC center. Realizing that traditional meditation is really hard for a lot of people, I had the idea to combine art with meditation! I started making art as a hobby 18 years ago, and combine traditional neuroscience mindfulness techniques with art. I also do sound bath meditations, which allow people to instantly slip into a state of pure relaxed bliss. Along this journey I became a metaphysical reverend and I am a spiritual development guide who facilitates a Way of Mastery study group on Sunday mornings. I love this journey and it’s been a very wild and unpredictable ride! When I set out to learn to manage my mind I had no idea I was actually opening the gate to my heart.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would go to Chelsea’s kitchen on the patio for some fabulous white sangria and jalapeno cornbread. YUM. I would take her hiking on South Mountain up Pyramid Point – great view and no crowds! We would definitely have to go to Century Grand because it feels like you are on a real train and the ambiance is so much fun. Hit up the Phoenix Art Museum for a tour, and then old town Scottsdale for some more art touring. We would for sure go out to SanTan flats for some fire pits and live music, and we have a jeep so we would go on the Arizona backroads for some gorgeous scenery and adventure. Then of course come to my studio space for some sound healing and painting time…and then obviously have to ditch town and head for Sedona!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shout out to my coach, Hana Callahan who CHANGED my life by seeing the greatness in me! And shoutout to The Way Of Mastery book by Shanti Cristo Foundation which radically altered my consciousness.
