We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamie Munoz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jamie, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for your children?
I am a dog mom! My kids are a 13 year old pit mix named Knuckles and x2 1.5 year old Staffies named Luna and Lily (@two.blind.pups) My little girls were born blind and left in a box by the side of the road in El Paso, Texas where they were picked up by animal control. A local AZ rescue, Mayday Pit Bull Rescue, stepped in and we became their foster parents then adopted them. They are amazing and have taught me PATIENCE. I have worked with them since day 1 to function just like regular dogs – they play, run, love baths and help me carry in groceries and they LISTEN!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Lady Muerta started in 2008 and has evolved tremendously since its inception. We started out primarily focused in Dia de los Muertos and Hispanic culture then moved into a Retro/Pinup style, always including alot of things with skulls and supporting local artists along the way. I realized several years ago that I AM Lady Muerta and it is me and my style and what I like, my customers like! That lead me heavily into selling all the Disney themed items that I sell today. Disney is my favorite and is alot of fun to sell. Not to mention all my customers who also love Disney are pretty cool themselves! I am happy that I finally realized that the brand didn’t have to go away if I didn’t only sell what I started out selling, change was ok and the brand is who I am!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
-Take the dogs to Ohso Brewery -Crepes and Coffee at Colados -Visit the Wildlife World Zoo -Desert Botanical Gardens -Visit the Farmers Market at 101 and Northern -Take the dogs to the Social on 83rd
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband who has supported me from day 1 and helps out in any way he can supporting my dreams. My mom who I started the company with in 2008 – she hand makes alot of our items still! Our customers and fans – they make it all real and are so fun to work with!
