We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Yates and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
When it comes to habits, I feel like it took me a while to figure out healthy habits and routines. The more I tried to create a “perfect” routine, the more I realized what I truly needed—a way to take care of my physical body and my mental health. Instead of perfecting habits or routines, I started to intuitively take care of myself. If I needed to sleep in one day instead of waking up early to work out, great! If I could tell my body needed some extra nutrients before heading into a wedding weekend, I made sure to get some good greens and protein. After starting to intuitively taking care of my body instead of trying to perfect the perfect routine, I could tell I was more productive and had more energy. Success is more than just doing well in business, it’s taking care of yourself.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a wedding photographer and with that, my main passion is storytelling. I always had a passion for listening to and telling others’ stories, but I wasn’t sure how I was going to do that. I jumped straight into digital marketing after college and at the same time, picked up a camera. Within 9 months I quit my job and I’ve been telling stories through photographs ever since. I absolutely love what I do! Being able to capture a couple’s love story with integrity and thoughtfulness brings me so much joy.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So I currently live in Orange County, California, but I can shed light on a few of my favorite things in Arizona. Besides all of the incredible hikes and state parks, I’d say that the best part of Arizona is the slowness of life but the liveliness of the cities. When I’m in Arizona, I am typically around Scottsdale. Things I LOVE are TopGolf and all of the fun restaurants and I would highly recommend staying at the Hotel Adeline—it’s the cutest boutique hotel!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Oh, absolutely! All of my friends, family, and community that has supported me in my journey to becoming a full-time wedding photographer.
