We had the good fortune of connecting with Madi + Lo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Madi + Lo, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
We didn’t think of it as a “business” at first. We created this concept through our passion for equality within the nightlife industry. As women who are based in LA and regularly go out, we quickly started to see the difference in respect that men and women were given within the social scene. Men are admired and looked up to while women are degraded and pitted against each other. On the other hand, as we became the staple ‘girls who go out every weekend’, we started to get other girls asking us questions about how the nightlife scene works (IE. What’s a promoter?, What do I wear clubbing?, How do I make party connects?, ETC.) We soon started to realize that women don’t really have much to look up to when they need advice for partying. We would look up “top 10 nightclubs in LA” and the answers would be outdated or just completely wrong. We would look up “Scottsdale party spots” which gave bars but didn’t really explain how Scottsdale partying works (IE. Unlike Los Angeles, Scottsdale “clubs” are more glorified bars that are all on one street) and we knew that there was this gap between women and nightlife that we wanted to fill. We created Party Girl Bible as a movement which ended up turning into a thriving business with a whole community of women!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Party Girl Bible is the first of its kind in more ways than one. Not only are we the first woman owned and operated nightlife based lifestyle company and social platform, but we are the first nightlife company of its kind to cater exclusively to women. We are so proud of the brand we have built, and continue to build, in just 1 short year of having our website published. Our brand aims to end the negative stigma placed on women who ‘party’, by challenging every sexest double standard while providing the knowledge every woman needs in order to safely navigate nightlife without having to rely on a man for any answers. ‘Easy’ is not the first word that comes to mind when thinking about our Party Girl Bible journey over the last year. Building any brand that requires destroying the narratives that men created to keep women inferior, will never be without opposition. From degrading emails, to public hate comments, to literally getting laughter as a response to our ideas, we have found that people will always point out your mistakes and hope for your failures more than they ever will for your successes, and learning to navigate that has been a challenge for us. Looking back, we have learned that building a brand is created with stepping stones and an empire isn’t built overnight. In the beginning, our excitement about the brand took over and we rushed some of our ideas thinking it would be a huge success, when in reality it flopped! We took a step back and really honed in on the details of our brand instead of the bigger picture, which ended up working in our favor. We want the world to know that it’s okay to try out new ideas and fail. We think of creating a business like a recipe book. There are hundreds of different recipes, each recipe has specific ingredients that work for that dish but not for others. The only way to figure out what ingredients work perfectly for that dish is to try out other ingredients along the way until you have the perfect recipe.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Because of the nature of our business, we would definitely know how to plan a fun week ahead with our besties! With so much to do and see in Scottsdale, having a full week to rage and relax gives us plenty of time to show a little bit of everything this desert has to offer! Though most of our mornings will most likely begin around noon and include a hangover, we can’t be in Scottsdale without getting brunch! Some of our fav aesthetic brunch spots we would bring them to this week would be The Montauk, The Canal Club, and The Lola for mimosas and some pics for the gram! For a more quick and casual sit down, we would bring them to our absolute favorite brunch/lunch spot, Diego Pops for some happy hour margs and their famous street corn queso! Most of our days would be spent in Old Town dancing by the pool at Maya day club, then continuing the party next door at any of the bars down the block (our favs are Riothouse and Casa Amigos)! For a more relaxing day, we would take our besties to the Scottsdale Quarter for some shopping! They have the best stores there as well as the famous Selfie World (insta pics for the whole week)! For casual dinner, we would take them to The Hot Chick (70’s themed fried chicken and burger place with arcade games) and for a more upscale dinner, we would take them to STK Steakhouse. The week is sure to be filled with lots of good food, great music, and the best memories!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Definitely our parents, Connie and Tom Mcmillan and Joyce and Bob Anderson. They have been the rock, the love, the support, and everything in-between. From being the first to see all of our ideas and products to our #1 fans in every arena, they have been the foundation of our success and our greatest critics.
