We had the good fortune of connecting with Ciara Cisneros and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ciara, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
When perusing a career in a creative field, I feel like this is a common dilemma that artists have. I think artists often find ourselves in this pattern of working so hard to create content that we love and then falling out of love with the process. We become burnt-out from not progressing as we think we should. In these moments where we wonder if we should give up or keep going, I think it is important to go back to our roots; why did we start doing this in the first place. For example, my creations come from my everyday life, experiences and emotions. I figure if my art helps me sort myself out, then maybe they can help others. That’s what motivates me to share myself with the world.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think in general, creatives are all very unique from one another. I believe that one’s life experiences are fundamentally a part of one’s style. With that being said, I love to take principles that I’ve learned in other artistic mediums and apply them in different ways to each of my creations. For example, often as a graphic designer, I find myself using my musical abilities to enhance my work. I am excited to finish my four year Graphic Design degree soon at ASU and to release music that I have fully produced. One of my biggest challenges throughout my graphic design journey and my musical journey has been truly opening up my mind to all different kinds of creative solutions. Whether it is a design piece, a song, or any kind of creative work, I believe that some of the most ingenious creations come from the unexpected. I realize more and more everyday that absorbing as much as you can from the outside world is what fuels creativity.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I’m being honest I am a home-body through and through, so I still have a lot. of exploring to do myself. However, one of my favorite mom and pop shops is SoZo’z Coffeehouse in Chandler, Arizona where all walks of life come to share their art music and poetry. If you’re looking for a weekend trip, Arizona has a multitude of outdoor experiences including: Bearizona near Williams which is a drive-through animal park in the mountains, Sedona with its picturesque red rock, and the iconic Grand Canyon. Even if I’m just taking a bike ride around the neighborhood or admiring the sunsets from my backyard Arizonas diverse landscape constantly inspires my creative soul.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to dedicate my shoutout to my parents and my family. They have always nurtured and encouraged my interests, so without them I wouldn’t of even know my passions, much less have the ability to pursue them.
